Groundbreaking Ceremony Of Skyline Ranch Community School In Santa Clarita

“Together we begin building the future; welcome school number ten!” Members of the Sulphur Springs Union School District and the community gathered to celebrate the construction of the new Skyline Ranch community school coming to Santa Clarita.

On Friday morning, a ceremony took place for the new Skyline Ranch Community School, catering to students in kindergarten through sixth grade.

The brand-new school features two classroom buildings, a kindergarten building, a multi-purpose building, a building for both administration and a learning center, a playground, two parking lots with over 30 spaces, and large playfields for recreational fun.

Sulphur Springs Union School District Superintendent, Dr. Catherine Kawaguchi, began the ceremony describing the new school coming to the Santa Clarita community.

“Skyline Ranch Community School will be a state-of-the-art campus designed for students at the heart of every detail. The new school will encompass approximately 41,248 square feet across five buildings, creating innovative and welcoming spaces where students will learn, grow, connect, and thrive,” said Kawaguchi.

Sulphur Springs Union School District Board President Shelley Weinstein highlighted the teamwork and diligence it took to develop Skyline Ranch Community School and its impact upon the community.

“Together with my fellow board of trustees, we worked closely with the architect, contractor, and construction manager to set the stage and bring this vision to life. We believe that this new campus will be a truly beautiful and inviting space for all students. This new campus will undoubtedly become a character asset to our team,” stated Weinstein.

Certificates were awarded to the school’s development by political figures in the Santa Clarita Valley, including Santa Clarita Valley Mayor Laurene Weste, Senator Suzette Valladares, Representative George Whitesides, Assemblywoman Pilar Schiavo, and Los Angeles County Supervisor Kathryn Barger.

Throughout the ceremony, students from Pinetree Community School performed live songs including “Peace Like the River” and “Rockin’ Robin”.

Dr. Kawaguchi concluded the ceremony with a heartfelt message from former student Ian Bello, who advocated for a more inclusive playground for all students. As a person with cerebral palsy, he spoke up for students of all abilities to have an opportunity to experience the joy of playing with other students and have a sense of belonging.

“Let this playground serve as an example; let it redefine what accessibility truly means, because this is not just a place. It is a milestone of inclusivity, accessibility, and acceptance,” wrote Bello.

Registration for new families to the Sulphur Springs Union School District is set to begin in January of 2028, and the school is planned to open in August 2028, just in time for the school year.
