‘How The West Was Won’ Charity Shoot Raises Funds For Santa Clarita’s Carousel Ranch

Carousel Ranch held their 12th annual “How The West Was Won Charity Shoot” Friday morning, raising funds to operate the “place where therapy is disguised as fun.”

Held at Moore N’ Moore Sporting Clays in Sylmar, Carousel Ranch’s annual charity shoot combined competition and fun for novice and experienced shooters, while raising “much-needed” operating funds for the Ranch, according to Carousel Ranch officials.

“We have teams of five from various organizations whether it’s a car dealership or a construction company or what have you and they go from shooting location to shooting location with 12-gauge shotguns,” said Eric Stroh, vice president of Carousel Ranch. “I actually talked to someone today who said they came all the way from Tennessee.”

Twenty teams, with 101 participants ranging from those with experience to men and women who have never held a gun, geared up at 9 a.m. Friday for a competitive day of shooting, according to Carousel Ranch officials.

To compete, guests were required to make a team reservation that provided all participants with breakfast, complimentary massages, a BBQ lunch and the opportunity to receive raffle prizes alongside awards and trophies.

“We are so excited because we are back,” said Denice Richmond, executive director of Carousel Ranch. “We haven’t had this event since 2019 when we had to cancel in 2020 due to the pandemic. In 2021, we still couldn’t have it in April so we were actually postponing this year until now.”

The 20 teams competed in a golf tournament-style shooting competition where players rotated between 14 ranges throughout the main event, according to Carousel Ranch officials.

Later on in the day, participants had the option to continue shooting in a less formal event, such as from the back of a large rocking horse, according to officials.

Over the years, “How the West Was Won” has been a winning, fundraising event for Carousel Ranch, “after all, what better way to spend a Friday morning than at the range with good friends raising money for the kids at Carousel Ranch,” read a statement from the Ranch.

Moore N’ Moore Sporting Clays has hosted the last four “How the West Was Won” charity shoot events for Carousel Ranch and the range owners are considered a part of the Carousel Ranch family with their son Elliot attending weekly lessons at the Ranch, according to officials.

“Events like these make it possible to continue serving families each week,” said President Teresa Todd of Carousel Ranch.

Carousel Ranch is dedicated to improving the lives of children and young adults with special needs. Through both equestrian therapy and vocational training programs, the Santa Clarita non-profit organization strives to create an atmosphere where every student can succeed in a place where therapy is disguised as fun.

  1. How dare you use a children’s carousel ride in the same sentence as a horrible, murderous, evil gun that comes after and hurts innocent children. The innocent, disadvantaged, underserved, marginalized innocent people are preyed upon by the horrible guns, despite their decent, loving, caring neighbors seeing, stopping & reporting the evil guns running amok in their peaceful neighborhoods.

    • This is a thoroughly bigoted comment. Guns are tools just like a chain saw. Neither good nor bad but how they are out to use.
If someone is breaking into my house I hope the sheriff shows up with a good gun and not a social worker.

  2. Roger, Wow, now the PC/Woke are including Guns on the “automatic Shut Up Freedom of Speech word” Bigoted!, Interesting——Yes let’s hope LE shows up with Good Guns, not Bad people with good guns!

  3. Just so you know we would not be free people without guns. and ability to bare arms. Some un American people are trying to curb our FIRST amendment rights. That is crazy!!!! Thank God for both the 1st & 2nd amendments. Censorship has no place in the United States of America 🇺🇸

  4. Jose, Well said!! Let’s hope something can be done about the Big Tech & Big Media Censorship!
