Man Stuck 20 Feet High After Cherry Picker Battery Dies

A man was rescued by the help of an aerial ladder from a fire truck after he became stuck in a cherry picker Tuesday evening in Castaic.

Around 6:10 p.m. Tuesday, firefighters received reports of a person trapped behind the Pilot Gas Station in the 31600 block of Castaic Road in Castaic, said Esteban Benitez, spokesperson for the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

“A person was trapped in a cherry picker about 20 feet high,” Benitez said.

The person became trapped after the battery on the machine died, according to officials on scene.

Firefighters utilized the aerial ladder on top of quint 126 giving the trapped worker a safe way down back to the ground.

  1. “utilized the aerial latter”
I am confident they used the ladder and not Latter.
Those things are not battery operated. Somebody screwed up.

  2. “latter” is properly spelled L A D D E R!

  3. Was it the former ladder or the latter ladder? Please edit your copy.

  4. 1. He was not a professional nor authorized lift operator.
    2. This happened after work days hours.
    3. This person was a vagrant, transient, homeless. He apparently climbed on and fiddled with the controls.
    4. He should have been arrested.
    5. Whoever should have secured the equipment should be fired.

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
