Mission Opera is thrilled to announce the premiere of Mission: Xcrawl, an all-new live improv adventure show inspired by the beloved tabletop RPG setting.

Part dungeon crawl, part game show, part live theater – Mission: Xcrawl puts brave adventurers into a televised arena where glory, danger, and crowd favor are all on the line.

A preview performance will take place at Strategicon Gateway on September 5, with the full production opening in November at a venue to be announced.

Mission Opera is now casting for the production.

Callbacks will be held July 19 at CSUN, leading into a six-week rehearsal process ahead of the September preview.

Audition and Event Details:

• Callbacks: Sunday, July 19, 2026, at CSUN.
• Rehearsals: Six consecutive Sunday evenings following callbacks.
• Preview Performance: September 5, 2026, at Strategicon Gateway, LAX Hilton, Los Angeles, CA.
• The audition form can be found here.

What to Submit:

Performers auditioning for Mission: Xcrawl will prepare a monologue along with a 90-second self-tape performed in character – styled as a real-world-style promotional or interview clip from within the Xcrawl universe (a sports interview, a reality show confessional, a hype reel or a sponsor testimonial).

This is the performer’s chance to show who their character is, how they carry themselves and how they’d present themselves to an adoring – or skeptical – in-world audience.

About the Production:

Mission: Xcrawl drops a team of live improv performers into a high-stakes dungeon crawl broadcast for the entertainment of an in-world television audience – and the very real audience in the theater.

Adventurers must navigate traps, monsters and challenges designed by a nefarious Dungeon Judge (DJ), all while earning the favor of the crowd.

Every performance is different, every run is live and no two shows are the same.

Rooted in the world of the Xcrawl Classics tabletop RPG, this production brings the thrill of the game table to the stage in a format accessible to fans and newcomers alike.

“Mission: Xcrawl” is produced by Mission Opera, the Santa Clarita Valley’s nonprofit performing arts company.

Mission: Xcrawl represents a bold new direction for Mission Opera – bringing together the worlds of live theater, improv performance and tabletop gaming culture.

The preview performance at Strategicon Gateway on September 5 is free with a convention badge.
