A GoFundMe has been started after a woman died of a fentanyl overdose while grieving the death of her grandmother.
Tricia Gilbert started the GoFundMe last Tuesday to help with finances after her daughter, who worked at the Sand Canyon Animal Hospital in Santa Clarita, died of an overdose, according to Gilbert.
“Just 16 days ago, we were 4 generations celebrating Mother’s Day and my Son’s birthday,” said Gilbert in the GoFundMe. “Today I mourn the loss of my best friends, my Mom Sandra Hinkle and my Daughter Ashley Caines.”
Gilbert said Caines’ death occurred shortly after she bought a controlled substance that was laced with fentanyl from a friend in Santa Clarita.
Caines overdosed on the drug after experiencing losses over the course of two months, according to Gilbert.
First, Caines lost Kusha, her service dog of 14 years. Then, her grandmother passed away just two days before Caines overdosed, Gilbert said.
Caines is survived by her two children aged 6 and 8, according to Gilbert.
“Losing my best friends, a daughter & a mother does not compare to what my young grandchildren are going through,” Gilbert said. “They asked ‘Is Mommy really gone?’ and said ‘I’m getting kinda use to it because we lost Kusha, Grandma Sandy & now Mommy.’”
The funds are set to go toward funeral services for Hinkle and Caines and upkeep for Caines’ home, according to Gilbert.
Gilbert says she will put any leftover funds in savings for Caines’ children.
“As a family, mourning both our loved ones leaving us, we now are preparing to celebrate their lives,” said Gilbert. “Due to Ashley’s children, her unexpected death, we are asking for your help in any way you can.”
So far, nearly $9,000 of the $22,000 goal have been donated through GoFundMe. To donate, click here.

So sad. 3 female students from LAUSD ordered their usual Ecstasy online. They didn’t know that this time it was laced with fentanyl. All 3 found passed out by a father in a bedroom, when his daughter didn’t return his text message. Heaviest girl still has a chance @ somewhat normal life, even though her troponin & lactate levels clearly indicate Long–term organ damage. Other two girls are on life supporting ventilators & suffer from ‘neurological consequences’, basically brain dead. We Need to TEACH our Children- to say Ugh to drugs. Try it?-Not even once.
Heaviest girl—-what’s that? Did she use a larger amount of illegal drugs or was she fat and it didn’t absorb in her body more than the others? Non accurate/truthful words can be confusing. Hope she’s OK—-
