Located on the eastside of Bouquet Canyon Road just south of Copperhill, the Bouquet Canyon Project would bring 461 for-sale, residential dwelling units into the Saugus community, according to officials.

The project was formally submitted to the City in May of this year by Bouquet Canyon Project Owner, LLC, but before any more steps can be taken in the entitlement process, an Environmental Impact Report (EIR) needs to be completed.

City officials have recommended that the Santa Clarita City Council award the $248,055 contract to Michael Baker International, Inc, (MBI), an engineering firm based out of Santa Ana, according to Tuesday’s agenda.

MBI has experience working with the City of Santa Clarita on a number of projects, including the new Canyon Country Community Center and the 15-year master plan for Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital.

The proposed plan for the Bouquet Canyon Project “includes two gated entries, two recreational areas, park space, trails and trailhead parking,” the agenda states.

Additionally, the project plan would include realigning Bouquet Canyon Road with the new housing tract, as well as widening the street from two lanes to four, according to Associate City Planner Hai Nguyen.

“So if you look at the aerial view of the project plan, it’s in the shape of a hump. The new Bouquet Canyon Road would slice through the middle of that hump,” Nguyen said.

MBI’s project proposal anticipated a 12-month process to prepare the EIR for the Bouquet Canyon Project. Upon completion, the company plans to present the Santa Clarita City Council with their findings, as well as any additional analysis conducted due to unexpected issues.

The Santa Clarita City Council meeting begins Tuesday at 6 p.m., and will be the first regular meeting for the council since the summer hiatus began on July 5.

New Bouquet Canyon Housing Development To Be Discussed By Santa Clarita City Council

  1. Another great column by a great reporter!

  2. Another development in our valley, with the BIG project on the 126 freeway with thousands of homes and then the BIG project to join Plum Canyon with Sierra Highway with hundreds of homes, WHERE is the water coming from??? Electricity???? Sewage??? Schools, Fire Stations?????
Our quaint little town has grown too much!
I guess our city politicians could care less about the existing citizens and care more about lining the city purses with lots of money from the developers and then the property tax money and wherever else they can squeeze a kickback from…
The traffic really sucks now… What took me 15 minutes to get to work before, now takes 25, and coming home is 30 minutes for a 8 mile drive from one side of the valley
    to the other..
I’m a long time resident and it’s a shame what’s happening to our city!
Is this project going to the citizens for a vote? More than likely not..

  3. Once again decisions over land space and it use is being discussed by potentially lame duck City Council members. This is being done without the direct representation of actual residents from Saugus. No one can predict the future of the landscape, but what will be predictable will be the representatives of the Developers and Real Estate interests at tonights City Council meeting. It is these suited gentlemen who will profit from the clogged streets, polluted air, and warnings of water shortages if the land is set aside for their development.

  4. So more traffic? more construction, and more water being wasted. Theres enough in Saugus as it is. Stop the building permits. Enough is enough!

  5. So this council housing development discussion was tonight? It isn’t clear if this discussion was open-to-the-public or council members only.. If tonight’s meeting was open to the public, then it would make one wonder if the public was excluded… on purpose.

    • I live very near to the proposed site, and have yet to be notified by any Firm or City Representatives of this potentially wildlife threatening and dangerous undertaking.
Where can one locate the outcome from this well hidden city council meeting? Anynone ???

  6. So besides the public probably not invited to this meeting, this begs the questions of traffic down Bouquet Canyon, water, where is it coming from and additional resources such as fire and police. Where is it coming from? This city cannot handle what it has now. Answers??????

  7. So much for our quiet, bedroom community. Bigger is not better.

  8. Remember who the City Council members are, so when its time to vote again we can choose candidates looking out for Santa Clarita

  9. NO MORE HOUSES UNTIL WE GET FLYING CARS

  10. Great!!!!! That’s all we need is more traffic on Bouquet Canyon..

  11. This is so upsetting. I found out about the meeting after the fact. Main concern: water. If water resources are such an issue and everyone has to let their yards die off & plant drought resistant plants & fake grass- where will the water magically materialize from??? It is amazing to me that new construction is allowed inSoCal at all- but here??
How can any elected officials approve new projects? Oh yes, more voters, more tax base. It is an outrage!

  12. So, ridiculous. There are only a few ways to the freeways and this will make it all the more difficult in this area to drive around. Unfortunately, Santa Clarita is slowing becoming more and more like the valley. Getting closer to my time to leave the city that I love.

  13. This is outrageous and I agree with all the previous comments… it’s no longer fun to be here. It’s getting scary. A serious earthquake or fire happens – we’re all in serious trouble. When the Agua Dulce fire happened, we couldn’t even evacuate off of Plum Canyon fast enough. It took 30 min to get from the top of Plum to Bouquet Canyon, total gridlock and that was before 1/2 the homes now up there were built along with the new fire station. We’re also thinking about getting out of this area. sad, sad, sad

  14. Crime and traffic has already increased here not to mention we now have homeless all over. Stupid drivers, more accidents. Welcome to the new Los Angeles.

    • Have you been impacted by the dust since the access road has been graded last week? The City of Santa Clarita has not performed it’s due diligence to enforce Mitigation efforts by MBI. This issue has been brought to your Council Members attention. At this time, there has not been an Official response from the City Manager or the Council Member. As stated above, tomorrow night there is a Meet and Greet with the new City Council Candidates. It is from 7 PM to 9 PM at the Mint Canyon Moose Lodge #2173. Now is the time to replace those Council Members.

  15. The EIR process has begun. There was a meeting held last night with a turnout of only three Residents. I voiced my concerns over the Environmental Impacts that we have already been subjected to. OSHA violations have already been video recorded and were brought to the City’s attention. The City played the that is not us and would not provide the Consultants contact information. I eventually reached out to the Coring Company and discussed the medical bills that we have already incurred form a lack of mitigation. I expressed my concerns that if Mitigation efforts are not in place for Soil Samples, I can only imagine how much greater the impact will be when they start Construction. I hope the Developer installs a Contingency great enough to relocate families during this phase. I can see lawsuits on the horizon.

  16. What is the status of this project? I havent heard anything about it for some time now
