Newhall Community Center Hosts Thanksgiving Harvest Celebration

A Thanksgiving Harvest celebration was held for Santa Clarita families at the Newhall Community Center Monday afternoon, featuring crafts, games and tote bags with dinner supplies free of charge for those attending.

On Monday afternoon, the City of Santa Clarita held a Thanksgiving Harvest celebration at the Newhall Community Center with the support of Parkway Motorcars.

“It’s an evening for the families to come together, to be together and be thankful for another year,” said Cynthia Muir, Community Services Supervisor for the Newhall Community Center.

In past years, the event was held as a Thanksgiving dinner, where hundreds of community members were able to eat a free meal inside the community center.

This year, due to pandemic restrictions, those who registered for the event received a tote bag with a $50 grocery store gift card and other items inside, provided by Parkway Motors.

Within the community center, there were also tables set up with crafts, including Thanksgiving turkey, wreath, and pumpkin papercrafts.

There was also a table where families could put together a floral centerpiece for the holiday.

Games were set up as part of the event, including a bean bag toss, ring toss, and indoor golf.

“We have a photo opportunity where families can take a picture with the friendly scarecrows and the Parkway Penguin,” Muir added.

The celebration is part of a trio of holiday festivities organized by the Newhall Community Center each year for Halloween, Thanksgiving and the winter holidays.

Since the pandemic, the community center has experienced a decrease in visitors. Muir expressed hope that events like the Thanksgiving Harvest celebration will help community members be aware that the center is available to them as a resource.

“I want people to come back to the center and realize that there’s a lot of offerings here for their families, and a lot of things that we do as a center to help them grow in the community,” Muir said. “This center is for everyone. We want people to feel this is their second home.”

The center’s Winter Magic celebration is set to take place on Dec. 17th. For more information about the event, click here.

  1. Sounds great, but, are more free items being given out to Xiden’s Illegal Aliens?!

  2. Such mean-spirited remarks!
