Nighttime 5 Freeway Construction Near Castaic Postponed Until Next Week

Overnight construction that was scheduled to take place Wednesday through Friday night on the 5 Freeway north of Castaic has been postponed.

Caltrans planned on reducing lanes Wednesday, Thursday and Friday nights from Lake Hughes Road to two miles north of Templin Highway near the Whitaker Sand Shed north of Castaic for paving.

However, the project was postponed until next week.

As of the publication of this article, Caltrans has not released a specific time the project is rescheduled to take place.

However, the northbound right lane remains closed 24/7 into November.

This construction is part of a project that began in April of 2022.

The overall scope of the project includes replacing concrete slabs, upgrading drainage systems and guardrail, repairing and stabilizing slopes through rock scaling and installing geogrid, and construction of the retaining wall.

Please allow extra travel time and drive with caution through the construction zone as we work to keep your freeways safe. Watch for updates at Caltrans (District 7) on X. Watch for closures and traffic conditions at Caltrans QuickMap.

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
