Future residents of Oakmont of Valencia are expected to move in to the luxury Santa Clarita senior living community next month, and the public is invited to a special grand opening celebration as well.

Set for July 13 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., attendees can enjoy food and live music, take tours of the brand new community and meet the residents who have already reserved their spot, according to Mary Dembkowski of Oakmont of Valencia. 

“We’ll be doing tours of the community, we have model apartments and the residents will be there, so it’s just really going to be a fun event,” Dembkowski said. “And we’ll have outstanding food… All the food will be prepared for our grand opening in our community by our chefs.”

Finishing touches are still being put on the community, as furniture arrived at Oakmont of Valencia earlier this month, including everything needed for a bird aviary for memory care residents, according to Dembkowski. 

“One of the things that is kind of signature with Oakmont is our bird aviary,” she said. “It was just so exciting — the birds are here, (so) we know we’re getting close to opening.”

Memory care residents can not only see the colorful birds and hear singing, they can even watch as mated pairs of birds go through the process of nesting and reproducing in the aviary, according to Dembkowski. 

“It can be very therapeutic for people with memory issues to sit and watch the birds,” she said. “And of course we have canaries, so they sing. So it’s just coming along, it’s coming together. It’s beautiful.” 

Residents of Oakmont of Valencia can also enjoy five-star dining, resident gardens, walking paths, a pet park, a bocce ball court, a movie theater and more. 

“We cater to seniors who maybe don’t want to maintain a home anymore and just want to be in an environment where their meals are prepared and they have beautiful amenities to enjoy,” Dembkowski said.
