Dozens gathered for a procession Saturday morning in honor of Deputy Mike Churney, a deputy with the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department (LASD) Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station who died from a sudden illness at Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital earlier this week.

Churney collapsed at home and suffered a non-survivable brain aneurysm at the age of 44 on Wednesday, March 17, 2021, leaving behind a wife and a 6-year-old son, according to a GoFundMe started to support his family.

His body was escorted from Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital to a mortuary Saturday, according to Lost Hills Station officials.

Officials at the Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station remember Churney as someone who “could always be relied on” and was a “regular presence at the station and could always be counted on for good conversation or laughs.”

Churney was a dedicated motorcycle unit at Lost Hills Station. He began his career with the LASD at Lost Hills in 1996, followed by a move to Men’s Central Jail and Court Services West. Churney eventually returned to Lost Hills in 2008 as a motor unit.

During his free time, the 25-year veteran of the LASD enjoyed racing motorcycles and vacationing with his family.

“We will never forget your dedication to your family, our department, and the residents of Los Angeles County. Rest in Peace Sir, we will take it from here,” read a Thursday social media post from the Lost Hills Station.

The procession was welcomed by not only his associates at Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station but also other officials with the LASD,  Los Angeles County Fire Department, Los Angeles Police Department, as well as the Glendale Police Department.
