Providence Southern California Names New Regional Associate Chief Philanthropy Officer

Veteran fundraising professional Gregg Gissendanner was named Regional Associate Chief Philanthropy Officer for Providence Southern California Wednesday.

On Wednesday, Gissendanner was given a Regional Associate position at Providence Southern California, specifically acting as Philanthropy Officer.

Gissendanner claims he was drawn to Providence by a culture of mission, values, and service.

“You feel the spirit of unity here, of collaboration in working toward the same goals. In this environment, you can do amazing things. I feel blessed to join this team and this organization,” Grissendanner said.

Grissendanner is set to join Providence on Sept. 1 and have responsibility for campaigns, principal gifts of 11 acute care hospital campuses, 11 ambulatory surgery centers, and physician enterprises.

The new chief philanthropy officer aims to help define fundraising priorities and strategies for the region’s eight Clinical Institutes, including advancing excellence in patient care through collaboration, innovation, and shared expertise.

Grissendanner holds a master’s degree in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies and bachelor’s degrees in psychology and business from Iowa State University.

Grissendanner previously led development teams at the University of California, Irvine, and at Iowa State University.

Additionally, he served as senior vice president and chief development officer for the Hoag Hospital Foundation and recently concluded a $760 million fund-raising campaign, according to officials.

So far this year, Providence foundations surpassed the 2021 goal and raised $80 million.

This goal was surpassed with a $50 million contribution from the Donald and Andrea Friese Family to construct a new patient tower at Providence Cedars-Sinai Tarzana Medical Center.

Providence Southern California is believed to be the region’s largest health system and last year contributed $485 million in services, programs, and charity care to those in need.
