The California Department of Public Health has issued a warning to the public not to consume raw milk after finding bird flu in a batch that was sold in the state.
Cream-top whole raw milk produced by Fresno County-based Raw Farm, LLC found the virus during routine testing. The impacted batch, with lot ID #20241109 and a best-by date of Nov. 27, 2024, has been voluntarily recalled by the manufacturer at the state’s request.
While no illnesses have been linked to the recalled milk, health officials urge consumers to avoid drinking it and to return any affected products to the place of purchase.
“Out of an abundance of caution, and due to the ongoing spread of bird flu in dairy cows, poultry, and sporadic human cases, consumers should not consume any of the affected raw milk,” states a press release.
Pasteurized milk and milk products remain safe to consume, as pasteurization eliminates pathogens, including bird flu.
