Officials from Samuel Dixon Family Health Centers are seeking donations after they were forced to cancel their 17th Annual Rubber Ducky Festival fundraiser on Oct. 12 due to the Saddleridge Fire.

“The safety of everyone involved and our community was a priority,” said Daisy Wyche, event coordinator.

Samuel Dixon Family Health Center, Inc. holds the annual Rubber Ducky Festival to raise money and awareness for families in need of healthcare, dental and behavioral health services, according to officials.

The cancellation of their signature fundraiser means that they were unable to raise thousands of

dollars that they generally raise on the day of the event, event organizers said.

“The cancellation of our signature fundraiser weighs heavily in our hearts because we know that so many people look forward to the fun-filled event,” Wyche said.

Samuel Dixon Family Health Center, Inc. gathered thousands of rubber ducks in crates and held multiple heat races at the Santa Clarita Aquatic Center instead of their originally planned event at Bridgeport Park, according to Samual Dixon officials.

Their donations came in the form of adopting rubber ducks, where participants can donate $5 to “adopt” a duck for the race.

The goal of reaching 5,000 adoptions had fallen short, with only 2,154 ducks adopted due to the cancellation of the event, according to officials.

The planning for next year’s duck festival has already begun, and details regarding the event are set to be released as soon as they become available.
