The City Council celebrated the grand opening of the Santa Clarita bike park at the sports complex on Friday.
BMX riders have been able to use the ramps and bowls at the Santa Clarita Skate Park for years, but they’ve been sharing the space with skateboarders and rollerbladers. This new park is a dirt track designed specifically for bikes, officials said.
Mayor Cameron Smyth was on hand at the opening ceremony, as well as other city officials, representatives, and business leaders. Smyth spoke about the need for more outdoor recreation opportunities especially during the COVID pandemic, and how perfectly a bike park meets that need.
“There really aren’t many better places, under our current restrictions by the state and county, than the bike park,” Smyth said. “It is something that you do individually, it’s outside and socially distanced, and so the timing of this could not have been better.”

The new bike park features several single-track mountain bike trails ranging from easy to moderate difficulty. It also includes 330 yards of track with combination jumps, including step-ups, step-downs, rollers and tabletops, according to city officials.
Construction on the park began near the end of July and was completed in less than two months, officials said. Plans are already in motion to expand the park and add a dedicated BMX track.

“Once we broke ground, we were able to move very quickly on it,” Smyth said. “So we look forward to the continued expansion of the bike park. We know this is going to be used by many generations from grandparents to grandkids, who all enjoy biking and mountain biking and BMX. And so we’re very excited to get this going.”
The new park is located at the Santa Clarita Sports Complex and is open every day from dawn till dusk.
