Santa Clarita Native Heads To Stanley Cup Finals

Kevan Miller, a Santa Clarita native who signed with the Boston Bruins in 2011, is making an appearance in the Stanley Cup Finals, after his team swept the Carolina Hurricanes Thursday.

The Bruins began their 2019 playoff run by beating the Toronto Maple Leafs in seven games in the first round, before knocking off the Columbus Blue Jackets in six games, followed by sweeping the Carolina Hurricanes and advancing to the Stanley Cup Finals.

Miller is a former Canyon High School student, who grew up in the Santa Clarita Valley before moving out of the valley to pursue his hockey career.

Miller originally signed to the Bruins in 2011 as a free agent, before getting a contract, according to the NHL.

In 2016, Miller was signed to a four-year $10 million contract.

In his third year with the Bruins prior to his four-year contract, Miller competed in a career-high 71 games and also established career highs in goals with five, assists with 13, points at 18 and penalty minutes at 53, according to the Boston Bruins.

Prior to joining Boston, Miller competed in 154 games with the Providence Bruins of the AHL.

He also played four seasons of college hockey at the University of Vermont from 2007-2011, serving as the team’s captain in 2010-11 and co-captain in 2009-10.

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
