Santa Clarita Mayor Bill Miranda has released a statement condemning a retired Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) detective seen using “racial slurs” in a social media video filmed in Valencia earlier this week.
A video posted to social media on Monday shows a former homicide detective in a verbal altercation with a young Black motorist.
“The video of the racially charged incident, which happened on March 13 in Santa Clarita, is horrendous, inexcusable and not reflective of the kind of environment we want to have in our City,” reads a Friday statement from Miranda.“No resident or visitor to our community should be treated the way that this man was by anyone, let alone a former law enforcement officer.”
The retired detective can be heard telling the young man, “Oh, but you can say (n—-r) and I can’t?” He goes on to say, “Go back into your little cage until the monkey controller gets here.”
The LAPD acknowledged Tuesday that the man in the video was a retired detective.
Miranda stated that “the words used by the man in this video evoke racism and invoke fear during a time when we are striving to create a more inclusive community that understands and appreciates human differences.”
Miranda condemned the actions of the man and extended his “deepest sympathies to the victim.”

“As a community, we must unite against all forms of racism and stand in solidarity with those who have been victimized,” said Miranda. “We will continue our work through the Santa Clarita Human Relations Roundtable to eliminate all forms of racism and discrimination.”
The incident occured on the eastbound side of Valencia Boulevard between Cinema Drive and Bouquet Canyon Road after a traffic incident.
Officials with the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office (LADA) announced in a tweet Tuesday that they would be opening an investigation to cases involving the retired LAPD detective.

I must have missed the part where Miranda justified bad driving. Conflating aggressive driving with race = racism. SCV is going straight downhill with the core values of racism and intolerance of certain community members.

In some parts of towns one gets beat up, stabbed, shot for looking cross-eyed at people! These largely ignorant and illiterate responses are almost as disturbing as the former detective’s inexcusable racist rant. It’s heartbreaking to continually see examples of racial bias that should have no place in a civilized society. I keep hoping they’re the last pathetic gasps from a dying breed.

The cop, actually, was found to be at fault. He was the one driving recklessly.

This man didn’t say something he didn’t mean under duress (no matter how upset I get, I never magically turn into a racist). His words and actions revealed that he is a racist. Period. This is not a difficult conclusion to make.
How this man, the older of the two, handled this situation is sickening. That he is a former homicide detective now on pension is really depressing. I’m glad this received the national and international attention it did, though it makes me ashamed for my city. I’m glad his prior cases will be under review and I hope his pension comes under review as well.

Slavery was abolished in most of the civilzed world before 1865. The Age of Enlightenment was 100 years old at the time. The Industrial Revolution was in its 3rd generation.

I see nothing here that reports that this young man was driving like a maniac and could have killed a couple of drivers had they not been on the defense that day. I do not condone this ex officers language however he was pretty hot over what had previously taken place.
