Santa Clarita Ranked 10th Worst City To Start A Career

Santa Clarita has been ranked the 10th worst U.S. city to start a career in 2021 and third worst in availability of entry-level jobs.

In a study released May 17, WalletHub, a personal finance website used 28 metrics to rank 182 cities in the U.S. on career-friendliness, with Santa Clarita ranking 173rd.

“To help recent graduates launch their careers in the right place, WalletHub compared more than 180 U.S. cities based on 28 key indicators of career-friendliness,” said a WalletHub representative. “The data set ranges from the availability of entry-level jobs to monthly average starting salary to housing affordability.”

Santa Clarita also ranked 19th worst in housing affordability and unemployment rate, according to WalletHub.

WalletHub found the city came in at 22nd worst in annual job growth rate.

Santa Clarita also took home some wins. The area ranked 20th in workforce diversity and has the 15th lowest average daily coronavirus cases out of the 182 cities evaluated, according to WalletHub.

The 182 cities reviewed by WalletHub included the 150 most populated U.S. cities and at least two of the most populated cities in each state.

  1. While this assessment might be true to today (during pandemic), I hope that there will be an assessment in the coming next couple of years. I know there are several companies looking to relocate to the Santa Clarita Valley and bring more jobs/careers to our local professionals; one I can think of specifically is Logix Federal Credit Union, whom is moving their corporate headquarters building from Burbank to Valencia. Logix is a Forbes recognized Best-In-State Credit Union and is one of the highest rated and performing Credit Unions (financial institutions) in the nation! They offer many opportunities; including tuition reimbursement programs amongst many other amazing employee benefits that are hard to compete with. The article seemed a tad negative, and the timing is probably a bad one, but we are growing as a community and I look forward to what the next 6 months and next year has to in store for those seasons financial industry professionals looking to grow their career (with the benefit of working more locally and getting rid of their commutes!), as well as those entering the job market for the first time. Check out the EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES at Logix Federal Credit Union; coming soon to awesome town to only make it more awesome!

    • One major problem is jobs are promised to locals when the city holds meetings prior to approving construction of these industrial areas or businesses. It is illegal to deny anyone employment due to them not living in SCV. SCV residents bought into it hook line and sinker that employers would only hire SCV residents. In order to live in SCV you need a high paying job which lets be honest working in fast food isnt going to cut it . In order for some of these businesses to make a buck or two due to high rent on the space or land they need to hire cheap labor from areas outside SCV. The town has expanded itself at a ridiculous rate and tricking some into thinking industrial expansion will minimize outside traffic, better our air quality and allowing those that live here to obtain a good paying job.
