In a recent report from the web-based financial advising company SmartAsset, Santa Clarita was named the 17th best place to raise a family on the West Coast.
The top of the list is dominated by bay area suburbs, which account for seven of the top 10 selections.
Overall, ranking above Santa Clarita include nine bay area suburbs, three southern California cities, two Sacramento suburbs and one city each from Oregon and Washington, according to the study.
Santa Clarita’s rankings particularly benefited from its low crime rate, which ranked as the seventh lowest among the top 25 ranked cities.
The study ranked cities based on 10 metrics:
- Housing costs as a percent of income;
- Annual cost of full-time childcare for infants;
- Percentage of population age 19 and under;
- Average proficiency in math ;
- Average proficiency in reading;
- High school graduation rate;
- Average spending per student;
- Poverty rate;
- Unemployment rate; and
- Crime rate per 100,000 residents.
Each city was ranked across all 10 metrics, with the exception of math and reading proficiency, graduation rate and average spending per student, which were given half weights.
These rankings were then averaged to arrive at the overall rankings.

KHTS Radio Santa Clarita Radio – Santa Clarita News
Santa Clarita would be ideal if it wasn’t for the noise pollution that slowly eats away at our humanity. The trains being a few feet away from our homes and they blare their air horns which are well in excess of 100 db 24/7. The growing traffic and the people that make their vehicles be as loud and obnoxious as possible and constant sirens. The local government turns and ear in favor of capitalism (that’s corruption) so there’s no one looking out for you and the citizens have become desensitized and no longer care. So, I disagree that Santa Clarita is one the best places unless they mean to make everyone deaf, dumb and stupid.
Um trains? This trains have been there since before 1976. No new tracks have been added . If anything there is less. So…/
You completely misread this article Luis. This is about Santa Clarita being one of the top places to raise a FAMILY; nothing to do with noice pollution or capitalism
