The “Stop the Stigma” Rally for mental health has been announced for May in recognition of Mental Health Awareness month. 

The event is organized by Mental Health Hookup, a local agency dedicated to mental health referrals in the Greater Los Angeles Area, connecting those in need with the appropriate mental health resources.

“I felt the need to create a community event here in what has become my hometown after seeing so many families who have an adult family member with Serious Mental Health issues.   These families are ‘closeted’  and often ‘self-isolate’  because of the shame they feel,’ said Barbara Wilson, a mental health policy and program consultant with Mental Health Hookup. “My hope is that our community will begin to welcome our friends and neighbors to come out of the closet and know that we are all one community – still.”

Featuring speakers from local health organizations and resources for mental and emotional well-being, “Stop the Stigma” is an opportunity for Santa Clarita residents to get connected and raise awareness for mental health issues.

The first annual “Stop the Stigma event is scheduled for Saturday, May 14 at Bridgeport Park in Valencia from 10am to 1 pm.
