In an effort to gain immediate community output, the Santa Clarita Valley Groundwater Sustainability Agency (SCV-GSA) has opened applications for a public advisory committee, furthering development towards sustainable management methods of the local groundwater basin in the valley, officials said Wednesday.
“As we develop this critical plan, it is important to consider all interests and perspectives of water users in the basin,” said Bill Cooper, SCV-GSA board president. “The Stakeholder Advisory Committee will provide input that will help produce a workable and enduring strategy for maintaining the health of our groundwater basin.”
The committee is expected to advise the SCV-GSA board regarding future decisions and policies, including water budgets, sustainable management criteria and implementation.
The Stakeholder Advisory Committee is set to include seven members, representing small, medium and large pumpers in the Santa Clara River Valley East Subbasin, the business community, environmental interests and the community at large, according to officials.
As a result of the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act of 2014 — a statewide effort to reduce over-pumping of critical water supplies — the SCV-GSA was formed as a joint authority responsible for sustainably managing the groundwater in the Santa Clara River East Basin.
Applications are due Sept. 2o, with further details about the committee and position available online at the Santa Clarita Valley Groundwater Sustainability Agency here.
