The SCV Rotary Club is gearing up to host its 12th annual Charity Chili Cook Off at the Bella Vida Senior Center next month.
The cook off event is scheduled to occur on Friday, Feb. 7 from 4:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. with funds anticipated to benefit the Senior Center and other charities in Santa Clarita.
Attendees will have the opportunity to sample a variety of chili recipes crafted by both amateur cooks and professional chefs. Participants can cast their votes for their favorite chili, with the top three contenders receiving the People’s Choice Awards. Additionally, a panel of local celebrity judges will present awards in the Judges’ Choice categories, according to event officials.
The event is set to feature silent and live auctions offering a range of items, including travel memorabilia. Guests can place bids directly from their smartphones while enjoying live music and DJ performances. A selection of specialty beers, wines, and cocktails will be available, and VIP ticket holders will gain early entry at 4 p.m., access to a VIP lounge, a complimentary drink ticket, and hors d’oeuvres.
There are only 30 chili cooker spots available, at the time of this writing.
The event comes on the heels of the Bella Vida Senior Center receiving a $5.1 million budget cut affecting meal services for local seniors.
In 2012, a culinary competition launched with ten aspiring chefs. Over the years, it has transformed into a blockbuster phenomenon, featuring over 40 chefs in 2022. Notably, students from local high schools have joined the adult contestants, expanding the competition’s reach.
Over the years, the cook-off has supported numerous causes, including animal rescues and educational programs. In 2019, for instance, the event raised $31,000 for local animal rescue charities.
