SCV Senior Center Brings Families Together For Seventh Annual Touch-A-Truck Event

The SCV Senior Center gave families an opportunity to get up close and personal with several unique vehicles during the seventh annual Touch-A-Truck event Saturday.

The annual Touch-A-Truck event gave curious kids and adults an opportunity to climb onto a fire engine, see a construction rig up-close, turn on a Sheriff’s or CHP vehicle siren or take photos with a famous film industry vehicle.

“We had a wonderful day,” said Kevin MacDonald, executive director of the SCV Senior Center. “We had a wonderful crowd. Everyone and the kids came out… just a wonderful morning for everyone.”

The organizing committee incorporated more kid-friendly activities into the event, like face painting, bubbles, model building and arts & crafts.

“As I walked around and I saw all the families and the kids and the service organizations that were there, I was beaming with pride,” said Santa Clarita Mayor Marsha McLean, the event chair.

Other highlights of the event included a helicopter from the UCLA medical center, a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department bus, and the Santa Clarita Trolley.

“The turnout this year was the biggest yet, and it seems to grow every year,” MacDonald said. “The city seems to support it.”

Food trucks were also on-site, along with multiple booths offering free ice cream, according to officials.

Proceeds from the event are set to go towards the SCV Senior Center’s Home Delivered Meals, Senior Respite Day Care, Handyworker construction and Supportive Services programs.

“The senior center put on an event that was family oriented and it was wonderful,” McLean added. “I think this was the biggest attendance we ever had and I look forward to having it for our families again next year.”
