Santa Clarita residents were treated to a special sight Wednesday, as a SpaceX rocket carrying a payload of satellites set the sky aglow.
Launched from Vandenburg Space Force Base, the SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket carried 15 Starlink satellites to low earth orbit, according to the mission report.
As a part of SpaceX CEO Elon Musk’s evergrowing portfolio of ventures, Starlink aims to sell internet connection anywhere in the world, using a network of low-earth orbit satellites. Over 4,800 Starlink satellites have been launched as of Thursday.
As it includes a particularly reusable design, the Falcon 9 rocket has led to major advancements in the viability of surface-to-orbit travel, allowing the same booster module to be used multiple times.
SpaceX boasts a total of 247 successful launches, and Wednesday night’s launch was the 10th flight for this specific Falcon 9 rocket.
