The Canyon Santa Clarita To Host Charity Concert To Benefit Saugus High

The Canyon Santa Clarita is set to host a charity concert in January, with all proceeds to benefit victims of the Saugus High shooting in November.

The concert is set to feature performances and collaborations from Steve Lukather of Toto, Colin Hay of Men at Work, Richard Marx of “Right Here Waiting” fame, Gregg Bissonette of the David Lee Roth band, Warren Ham of The Ham Brothers Band and Ringo Starr and His All-Starr Band, vocalist Amy Keys, keyboardist Jeff Babko and guitarist Mick Mahan.

In addition to proceeds from ticket sales, there is also planned to be a silent auction as well as a few VIP meet and greets, according to event officials.

The concert was organized by longtime resident and music film director Brent Carpenter, whose children graduated from Saugus High School.

Carpenter contacted several friends from the music industry that he has made in his past work as a film director, with work that includes concert videos for Ringo Starr over the past 20 years.

“One of the blessings I’ve had is getting to know some of the greatest musicians alive, they love playing even if there is only one person in the audience,” said Carpenter. “It’s kind of like  big musical family, they all have worked together at some point, and they love working together.”

All proceeds are set to benefit the Saugus High fund, which was arranged after the Saugus High shooting in November.

15-year-old Gracie Muehlberger and 14-year-old Dominic Blackwell were killed as a result of the Thursday, Nov. 14 shooting, when 16-year old Nathaniel Berhow opened fire in the quad of Saugus High before turning the gun on himself. Three other students who were injured survived the shooting and are now on the long road to recovery.

“We’re just trying to ease a bit of the pain. I mean, you think about all of this happening so close to the holidays… those kids who were killed, their families had probably already bought presents,” said Carpenter. “People aren’t supposed to lose children, especially not that way. So we want to do whatever we can do to help.”

The concert is scheduled for Sunday, Jan. 5, 2020. The doors are set to open at 6 p.m., and the show itself is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m., according to the website.

“They were heartbroken for the families and wanted to do something to help. Brent has worked with many of these musicians in the past and each one he asked was eager and willing to join the bill,” read the event page.

General admission starts at $10, and table seats start at $40.

There are a limited number of VIP Meet & Greet tickets available. These tickets do not include admission to the concert, but rather are applicable to the pre-show meet and greet with photo opportunity at 6:45 p.m. Each Meet & Greet starts at $50 plus applicable fees.

Anyone who purchases a ticket at a table is required to purchase dinner, and all those attending are held to a two-drink minimum. All those attending under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a paying adult.
