The City of Santa Clarita initially released information about the park project at the beginning of this week, announcing the Via Princessa Park located beyond the railroad tracks of the Metrolink station.
The all ages park will feature four multi-sport fields with sports field lighting, four pickleball courts and a pedestrian tunnel beneath the Metrolink tracks, creating a safe and convenient connection to the park.
“Via Princessa Park represents more than just new amenities. It represents thoughtful planning, smart use of space, and environmental investment in the quality of life for all Santa Clarita,” said Mayor Laurene Weste.
Not only does the park serve as the perfect place for Santa Clarita residents to enjoy the outdoors but also serves its purpose as a clean water solution.
“Back in 2018, L.A. County voters passed Measure W that created the Safe Clean Water program to fund multi benefit storm water projects with three main goals, of which this project delivers on beautifully. We have to increase local water supply, improve water quality, and deliver Community Investment benefits,” said The Santa Clara River Watershed Coordinator Amanda Begley.
As part of the park’s design, a stormwater infiltration system will be installed, which will collect and treat stormwater on site before it naturally filters into the ground. With this system, runoff will be reduced, water quality will be improved, groundwater recharge will be supported, and the Santa Clara River will thrive.
Representatives of Congressman George Whitesides and Senator Suzette Valladares also gave speeches on the benefits and excitement of the park project and how it will positively impact Santa Clarita residents.
As the first portion of ground was struck, it harkens a new era for parks and recreation in Santa Clarita, giving life to the Santa Clara River.
No official date has been given as to when the park will be open.

They need to focus on the areas around it first . I’d prefer they clean up Jake’s Way then put in a park .
