“It is great to see a wonderful turnout on a Saturday morning with well over a hundred volunteers that are here and what is most encouraging is the number of young people that are here willing to get up early on a Saturday morning,” said Mayor Cameron Smyth.

Make A Difference Day is an opportunity for volunteers ages 5 and up to help make a direct and positive impact on organizations that benefit our community in different ways.

“Today we are going to be painting for Bridge to Home for our homeless population who provide housing and shelter,” said Sandra Hernandez, volunteer.

Volunteers helped with the Kick-Off Rally, painting walls and concrete fences at Tesoro Adobe Park, the Transit Maintenance Facility and Central Park, spreading mulch to create a new pathway at the Newhall Community Center, cleaning the kitchen and food pantry at the Salvation Army, help with basic landscaping in Canyon Country, painting light poles on the paseos, as well as moving furniture and painting walls at Bridge to Home, among other projects.

“I decided to see what volunteering opportunities there were for my kids to let them know that there is a community out there that has needs and if we’re not doing it then somebody has to do it,” said Cherrie Collins.
