Today in SCV History, on May 10, 1934, the American Western film Blue Steel was released. The film was directed by Robert Bradbury and starred John Wayne and was shot in the Santa Clarita Valley, specifically in Walker Ranch.
Blue Steel follows John Wayne who plays a U.S. Marshal who is trying to capture the Polka Dot Bandit. The short Western shows the fun adventures of the Marshal and Sheriff as they chase down bandits, find robbery suspects, and a classic battle for gold.
The film was shot in several locations around California, but the primary filming was conducted in East Walker Ranch in Santa Clarita. The familiar green hills of the open space can be seen throughout the film, highlighting the rustic and adventurous spirit of SCV.
Blue Steel was originally released as “Stolen Goods” in the UK and it was later released in a colorized version. Since the movie has fallen into public domain, several versions can now be found in circulation.
