A vigil has been planned for Pedro Roman, a 17-year old student from Valencia High School who had been battling leukemia since September of 2019.
Pedro’s family members announced Monday that he had passed away due to a recent relapse of his acute lymphoblastic Leukemia.
“Thank you on behalf of Pedro’s family for all the love and support this past year and a half! They couldn’t have done it without all of the kindness and generosity from all of you,” reads the GoFundMe page started by family friend Alana Altmeyer to help fund medical bills. “With all your help they were able to be by his side and fight his fight with him. Thank you all!”
Since diagnosed, Pedro received nothing but love and support from his family and community. His fellow teammates from the Valencia Vikings football team all shaved their heads in support of Pedro’s journey.

A surprise drive-thru car parade was thrown just a few months ago for Pedro’s 17th birthday, where many of his classmates and family members attended to show support.
Most recently, a blood drive event took place last week in honor of Pedro as he had entered remission at the time as of Dec. 10.
A vigil is scheduled to happen at Central Park at 8 p.m. Thursday, and Santa Clarita community members are invited to attend. Those wishing to attend are asked to bring purple glow sticks; a tribute to Pedro’s time playing football on the Valencia Vikings as No.21.
To help the Roman family during this difficult time, funds can still be donated to the GoFundMe page here.
