29 additional cases of coronavirus have been confirmed across the Santa Clarita Valley on Saturday, with over 1,040 confirmed cumulatively since testing for COVID-19 began in March.
As of Saturday afternoon, a total of 1,043 cumulative cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in the Santa Clarita Valley since testing began in March. These include:
- 648 in the City of Santa Clarita
- 35 in the unincorporated areas of Canyon Country
- 301 in Castaic*
- As of Friday, May 22, this included 240 cases among prisoners at the North County Correctional Facility, and 38 at the Peter J. Pitchess Detention Center.
- Four in the unincorporated areas of Saugus
- 30 in Stevenson Ranch
- Seven in the unincorporated areas of Valencia
- 17 in the unincorporated areas of Val Verde
- One in the unincorporated areas of Newhall

Additionally, 11 cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in nearby Acton as well as six in Agua Dulce.
Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital officials have administered a total of 1,332 tests as of Thursday, 197 of which have returned positive, and 1,245 of which have returned negative, with 35 still pending, according to hospital spokesperson Patrick Moody.
Some patients have been tested more than once, creating a discrepancy in the numbers, according to the spokesperson.
While 14 patients are hospitalized due to COVID-19 as of Monday, 68 have recovered and have been discharged, according to Henry Mayo officials.
The patients are being treated on a designated floor of the newly-built patient tower, with each patient receiving the correct level of care without using beds in the Intensive Care Unit, according to the hospital.
Other health centers in the Santa Clarita Valley are also conducting coronavirus tests, according to the L.A. County Department of Public Health.
Last Friday, the DPH revealed a total of 17 deaths had taken place in and around the Santa Clarita Valley and surrounding communities. 15 of the deaths were attributed to the City of Santa Clarita, one was attributed to Castaic, and one was attributed to Acton.
An additional death was reported Monday at Henry Mayo but has not been added to the Public Health data.
Public health officials are not releasing recovery numbers by city, according to the department.
Due to testing shortages, these numbers are only the confirmed cases, which officials say could be much lower than the actual number of coronavirus cases in Santa Clarita.
A Santa Clarita testing center opened on April 8 at the College of the Canyons Valencia campus.
This site is one of several that are up and running around the county, and the first in the Santa Clarita Valley.
Testing is set to run from 7 a.m. to approximately 5 p.m., seven days per week, according to the college.
The Santa Clarita coronavirus testing site is expected to continue at least until June, according to County officials.
Residents are encouraged to stay at home, according to the county public health order.

Ed. Note: The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health has included cases for Pitchess Detention Center and the North County Correctional Facility in the count for Castaic as reported by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. KHTS is working on getting the exact numbers for those two facilities, and will update the above numbers to reflect that later this afternoon.

KHTS Radio Santa Clarita Radio – Santa Clarita News
It’s so sad to see the numbers still rising after all we (most) have sacrificed in order to lessen the cases.
Wonder too, how many contracted this from being in a crowded confined space like a restaurant here that went maverick and prematurely opened its dine-in service against LA county orders. This brought in people from all over, not just here. Will any of these cases be traced back to Crazy Otto’s? Pay some real good attention to the numbers in the next few weeks following this holiday weekend.
Im sure our “brave” protesters protesting about their so called Constitutional right not to wear a mask around others isn’t helping much either. Thanks guys your going to keep us locked up even longer.
The number of confirmed cases means nothing on its own. Look at how many people end up healthy! It is unfortunate to have these numbers without additional facts. These numbers create fear in people. The likelihood of you dying from it is less than 0.05%.
What about the number of new cases of cancer? That is also curable and in some cases avoidable. Start to show us those numbers. And as a general public reading these numbers will you stop eating poorly to avoid cancer? Will you stop smoking to lower your chances of getting it? Will you stop going outside in the sun to avoid the chances of getting it? You know the numbers of COVID-19 do not mean anything by themselves… what it means by itself is it creates fear.
You can’t infect someone with cancer. That’s a pretty dumb comparison.
Thank you KHTS for evoking fear in the residents of Santa Clarita but not stating facts. You don’t state the average ages of these individuals, which are probably 70 and over, and residing in nursing homes. As well you don’t mention if these individuals had pre-existing conditions or not. I’m sure there are some unfortunate souls who had genetically compromised immune systems but these people are in the great minority. Yes, owners and management of places like Crazy Otto’s are stupid for not requiring distancing. But places that do so should not be restricted from opening up and allowing individuals to live again. I’ll finish by saying to you naysayers of whom the majority are living on unemployment and money from the Stimulus Act and making as much money as when you are working- well, it’s pretty evident why you want the economy to remain closed and not go back to work.
Besides contradicting yourself you made baseless assumptions and assertions about what people want.
We want safety amid a pandemic the like not seen before. We want to survive, both physically and financially. We want respect for others as well as yourself.
This weekend as we honor those who have died defending this nation, too many are disregarding safety measures put in place putting us all in danger of another shutdown, this time during the summer. Don’t you see the irony here? Do you see anything past your own interests?
Nobody is in fear you idiots! we just don’t want to stop
spreading this around so we can get back to a semi normal life
Thank you word predict phone
Zachary, you wrote “probably 70 or older.” Too vague.
