33 Additional Coronavirus Cases Confirmed In Santa Clarita Valley, Nearly 1,100 Cumulative

33 additional cases of coronavirus have been confirmed across the Santa Clarita Valley on Monday, with over 1,090 confirmed cumulatively since testing for COVID-19 began in March.

As of Monday afternoon, a total of 1,093 cumulative cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in the Santa Clarita Valley since testing began in March. These include:

    • 677 in the City of Santa Clarita
    • 35 in the unincorporated areas of Canyon Country
    • 316 in Castaic*
      • As of Monday, May 25, this included 251 cases among prisoners at the North County Correctional Facility, and 47 at the Peter J. Pitchess Detention Center.
    • Four in the unincorporated areas of Saugus
    • 33 in Stevenson Ranch
    • Seven in the unincorporated areas of Valencia
    • 20 in the unincorporated areas of Val Verde
    • One in the unincorporated areas of Newhall

Additionally, 11 cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in nearby Acton as well as six in Agua Dulce.

Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital officials have administered a total of 1,332 tests as of last Thursday, 197 of which have returned positive, and 1,245 of which have returned negative, with 35 still pending, according to hospital spokesperson Patrick Moody.

Some patients have been tested more than once, creating a discrepancy in the numbers, according to the spokesperson.

While 14 patients are hospitalized due to COVID-19 as of last Monday, 68 have recovered and have been discharged, according to Henry Mayo officials.

The patients are being treated on a designated floor of the newly-built patient tower, with each patient receiving the correct level of care without using beds in the Intensive Care Unit, according to the hospital.

Other health centers in the Santa Clarita Valley are also conducting coronavirus tests, according to the L.A. County Department of Public Health.

A total of 46,018 coronavirus cases have been identified across the County as of Monday, as well as an 12 additional deaths, bringing the Los Angeles County total death count to 2,116.

The DPH revealed a total of 17 deaths had taken place in and around the Santa Clarita Valley and surrounding communities. 15 of the deaths were attributed to the City of Santa Clarita, one was attributed to Castaic, and one was attributed to Acton.

An additional death was reported last Monday at Henry Mayo but has not been added to the Public Health data.

Public health officials are not releasing recovery numbers by city, according to the department

Due to testing shortages, these numbers are only the confirmed cases, which officials say could be much lower than the actual number of coronavirus cases in Santa Clarita.

A Santa Clarita testing center opened on April 8 at the College of the Canyons Valencia campus.

This site is one of several that are up and running around the county, and the first in the Santa Clarita Valley.

Testing is set to run from 7 a.m. to approximately 5 p.m., seven days per week, according to the college.

The Santa Clarita coronavirus testing site is expected to continue at least until June, according to County officials.

Residents are encouraged to stay at home, according to the county public health order.

  1. What? You’ve gotta be kidding; the virus was cancelled for our holiday, wasn’t it? It musta been… from the video we’ve been seeing this weekend with people crowding together maskless, making physical contact and partying just like it was 1999, it was, right?

With more businesses reopening and our focus back on ourselves we are about to learn if this is all wishful and premature or if we must start over, returning to Go. Are you concerned, as am I, what that chart shown above will show in the next few weeks.

    Spoiler:
The virus is still among us; we need to remain vigilant to stay as safe as possible as we repopulate. What do you think you see when you envision the “New Normal?” What will you wish you had done when you could?

Here’s a song to put this to music-
    “Building Fires” Flying Burrito Brothers.

    • I wish CDC recommended the face covering for everyone from the start. Now they are saying if we all wear them it will stop this from spreading by 75%. so I guess that means they could have saved around 75%of the dead and we could have had about 75% less of an outbreak if face covering for all was their first recommendation to America. Thanks for the expert advice. Maybe fauci is trying to get us all sick so he can sell us on his funded vaccine, maybe its population control, maybe they are trying to thin the county funded retirement homes or maybe our experts just have no common sense.
