With much of the Santa Clarita Valley staying home during the coronavirus pandemic, and Safer at Home mandate, many residents are looking for ways to bring a little bit of the outdoors into the safety of their own homes.
Here are six ways to help cope with spending less time outdoors than usual by bringing some outdoors in:
1) Order New Plants:
Missing the lush greens of plants outside? There are many websites that can safely deliver new houseplants to your door. If you have young kids, they can help decide what plants to purchase, and give them the responsibility of watering them each day. Having plants indoors is a mood booster and many indoor plants can even improve the air quality of your home.

2) Plant flowers:
Do you want new plants and flowers but want to watch the process from the beginning? Pots, soil and seeds can easily be ordered online to be safely delivered straight to your home. Santa Clarita is warming up a bit, so with daily watering you should start to see your seedlings sprout within 3-5 days! Planting flowers is a great way to give kids and parents something new to look forward to everyday. Let kids water the flowers everyday as a part of their routine to break up the day a bit.

3) Support a local florist:
Ordering a beautiful bouquet of flowers to be delivered to your home is a great way to bring some nature inside while supporting a local Santa Clarita business.
4) Grow Butterflies:
There are many websites that allow you to not only have a caterpillar/butterfly home delivered but also the caterpillars themselves. Watching the life cycle of the caterpillar and letting the butterfly’s go when they are fully grown is enjoyable for all ages, including adults!

5) Build an Ant Farm:
Ant farms are another fun way to watch creatures grow and create. Catch your ants and watch them create a series of tunnels! If properly cared for, an ant farm can last for months.

6) Adopt a pet:
Looking for a pet for a more long term commitment? Consider adopting a pet from a local pet store! Pet stores have pets, like fish and birds, that require little work but offer great companionship.
