Face coverings are now mandated outdoors in California when a six-foot social distance is unable to be maintained, further restricting a recommendation issued in June.
In new guidance issued on Nov. 16 by the California Department of Public Health, residents in California must wear face coverings when they are outside of the home unless they meet certain criteria, according to the department.
“The purpose of this guidance is to provide information about when face coverings are required. It mandates that face coverings be worn state-wide at all times when outside of the home, unless one or more of the exceptions outlined below apply,” the guidance reads. “It does not substitute for existing guidance about physical distancing and hand hygiene.”
A cloth face covering is a material that covers the nose and mouth. It can be secured to the head with ties or straps or simply wrapped around the lower face, according to public health.
The covering can be made of a variety of materials, such as cotton, silk or linen. A cloth face covering may be factory-made or sewn by hand or can be improvised from household items such as scarfs, T-shirts, sweatshirts or towels, according to the guidance.
Individuals are exempt from wearing face coverings in the following specific settings:
- People in a car alone or solely with members of their own household.
- People who are working in an office or in a room alone.
- People who are actively eating or drinking provided that they are able to maintain a distance of at least six feet away from People who are not members of the same household or residence.
- People who are outdoors and maintaining at least 6 feet of social distancing from others not in their household. Such People must have a face covering with them at all times and must put it on if they are within 6 feet of others who are not in their household.
- People who are obtaining a service involving the nose or face for which temporary removal of the face-covering is necessary to perform the service.
- Workers who are required to wear respiratory protection.
- People who are specifically exempted from wearing face coverings by other CDPH guidance.
The following individuals are exempt from wearing face coverings at all times:
- People younger than two years old. These very young children must not wear a face-covering because of the risk of suffocation.
- People with a medical condition, mental health condition, or disability that prevents wearing a face covering. This includes People with a medical condition for whom wearing a face-covering could obstruct breathing or who are unconscious, incapacitated, or otherwise unable to remove a face covering without assistance. Such conditions are rare.
- People who are hearing impaired, or communicating with a person who is hearing impaired, where the ability to see the mouth is essential for communication.
- People for whom wearing a face covering would create a risk to the person related to their work, as determined by local, state, or federal regulators or workplace safety guidelines.
- Coronavirus spreads when an infected person coughs, sneezes, sings, talks, or breathes within 6 feet of others. You may have the virus and spread it even if you feel well.
“The risk for COVID-19 exposure and infection remains and will continue to be in our midst for the foreseeable next several months,” the updated guidance from the California Department of Public Health reads. “Since the start of the pandemic, we have learned a lot about COVID-19 transmission, most notably that there are a large proportion of people who are infected but are asymptomatic or pre-symptomatic, and they play an important part in community spread.”

The use of face coverings by everyone can limit the release of infected droplets when talking, coughing, sneezing, singing, exercising, shouting, or other forms of increased respiration, and they can also reinforce physical distancing by signaling the need to remain apart, according to the Department of Public Health.
Additionally, public health officials say that increasing evidence also demonstrates that a cloth face covering or mask offers some protection to the wearer.

It’s a scam, this disease has a 99% Recovery Rate. Don’t listen to these Lies, enough is enough and we’re over it.
They don’t show stats of recovered, or ages of those, infected, or what part of the community it’s from.
Guess you don’t know anyone who has died from this disease. I hope you never feel that pain, but just yesterday 1700 families are dealing with their grief from this disease. Does it harm you to wear a mask if it can possibly save one life? We all need to be in this together, care for each other and hopefully eradicate this disease.
My “mask wearing habit” will not change with these restrictions.

Better idea is for those who need to remain safe to avoid others at all times. Without proper-sealing eye protection, any virus present will enter the mucous membranes of the eyes.

It’s a ‘MANDATE’. Aren’t you mandated to wear clothes in public? What this really comes down to is looking out for each other as human beings. It’s VERY clear that if people have a problem wearing a mask, you don’t care about anyone but yourself….so if it makes you feel better just tattoo ‘I’M SELFISH’ on your forehead so if you are ever in need help, fellow mankind can return the favor.

P.S-the likelihood that Newsom will tell us to stop wearing masks before his midterm election regardless of the vaccine is the same likelihood that people will tell their pets to stop using the litter box.
I just don’t understand. When our country was attacked on 9/11, or any other time throughout history, all Americans have come together to fight the outside forces, to care, use compassion and help their family, friends, neighbors and strangers. This virus is attacking Americans, if we can help one another why wouldn’t we. Wearing a mask may not be super comfortable, but if it may protect just one person, isn’t it worth it? We shouldn’t need a mandate, we should want to wear a mask to protect the cashier, our friend, the stranger walking down the street. Some people feel that 99% will recover, how about helping the 1%. Some people don’t think masks work, but if there is a possibility that they do, isn’t it worth it. Let’s stop arguing, debating and come together to help all Americans get back to the life we want.

Evil things we had sorted out or at least was being addressed, he has brought right back the monster and fed it, nurtured it, and now it’s full-blown again now!
