Child & Family Center Cancels Annual Taste Of The Town Fundraiser

Officials with the Child & Family Center announced Friday that their annual Taste of the Town fundraiser for 2020 has been cancelled as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The center released a letter signed by CEO Joan Aschoff, PsyD, and Board of Directors Chair Cheri Fleming to supporters Friday announcing the cancellation.

“We were hoping that postponing the date until June would work out, but as time goes by it is clear that it likely will be impossible for that to happen,” the letter reads. “Many of our exhibitors are struggling to survive financially and large scale gatherings will likely not be permitted by that time.”

The annual fundraiser has taken place on the first Sunday of May for 32 years, and the money raised at the event goes to the services that the center provides to 900 children, adolescents, adults and their families each month.

The 2019 Taste of the Town also provided the funds needed for the center’s crisis team to respond immediately to the shooting at Saugus High School last November.

In lieu of purchasing a ticket for the 2020 event, Child & Family Center officials are asking the community to donate to the center directly in order to support their programs.

“With your generous support, we can continue to respond to our community’s needs,” the letter reads. “Please continue to support our participating restaurants, beer and wine purveyors, for without them we would never be able to have a Taste of the Town.”
