As Santa Clarita residents are preparing to either travel or have family over for Thanksgiving, Governor Gavin Newsom is urging residents to stay local and to self-quarantine for 14 days if they decide to travel.
On Friday, Newsom placed a travel advisory on travelers asking them to stay local and not to travel unless it is essential, according to the Governor’s office.
“The travel advisories urge against non-essential out-of-state travel, ask people to self-quarantine for 14 days after arriving from another state or country and encourage residents to stay local,” the statement reads.
This advisory comes on the heels of California’s COVID-19 cases continuing to spike.
“California just surpassed a sobering threshold — one million COVID-19 cases — with no signs of the virus slowing down,” Newsom said. “Increased cases are adding pressure on our hospital systems and threatening the lives of seniors, essential workers and vulnerable Californians. Travel increases the risk of spreading COVID-19, and we must all collectively increase our efforts at this time to keep the virus at bay and save lives.”
In addition to urging individuals arriving from other states or countries to self-quarantine for 14 days after arrival, the states’ travel advisories recommend individuals limit their interactions to their immediate household, according to officials.
The advisories define essential travel as travel for work and study, critical infrastructure support, economic services and supply chains, health, immediate medical care as well as safety and security, according to the statement.
The Governors of Oregon and Washington also have placed the same travel advisory on their states as their numbers are also continuing to increase, officials said.

Newsome can go fly a kite! I’m so sick of this illegal overreaching! Who do we even trust anymore with ridiculous leaders who have no common sense. We are becoming a society of zombies!
After he was just at a event. He’s not even following his own rules. Done with this clown.
Elon Musk said on Thursday he took four coronavirus tests on the same day, with two showing positive results, while the other two were negative.
“Something extremely bogus is going on. I was tested for covid four times today. Two tests came back negative, two came back positive. Same machine, same test, same nurse.
In September Becton Dickinson and Company were investigating reports from U.S. nursing homes that its rapid coronavirus testing equipment was producing false-positive results.
I doubt we will be hearing the results of the investigation,
If he thinks people are gonna listen to him now he is diffently a looney. If you believe newsom you are just as looney. Guarenteed he will have his family over and no one will be outside and no one will be doing what he is telling us. He can go straight to h$%.
This is what happens when we give in to tyranny as we did 8 months ago without questioning a thing. Do you think they were not paying attention when we capitulated to losing our freedoms, our businesses, shutting down schools, and our churches? They were and this is going to be looked back at as one of the greatest mistakes of our time. The number of people who have and will suffer due to the government overreaches is immeasurable.
2 words! French Laundry!
Think about the deaths. That is the most important. Not acting quickly enough on a federal government level was one of the greatest mistakes of our time.
How did the Federal Government not act quick enough? Shutting down travel with China…did that, fast tracking treatments for Covid…did that. We are a republic of states, the state government made many decisions which have prolonged Covid and placed those actually at risk for dying of Covid like forcing nursing homes to take Covid patients. Stating something does not make it true. Follow the facts and the science.
Back in April when New York and California barely used the Comfort and Mercy floating hospitals after begging for them that’s when it became political.
