Los Angeles County reported a record-breaking increase in COVID-19 hospitalizations Tuesday afternoon, as the county reached another tragic milestone of over 11,000 deaths related to the coronavirus, officials said.
An additional 13,512 COVID-19 cases were reported in Los Angeles County on Tuesday, along with 224 deaths, according to officials with the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (LADPH).
This brings the county’s cumulative total to 840,611 positive cases of COVID-19 and 11,071 deaths since March 2020.
More than one in every five people in L.A. County who have been tested are testing positive for coronavirus, officials said.
Public health officials continued to stress the need for public practice of physical distancing and wearing a cloth face covering.
“Healthcare workers and hospitals continue to be taxed and overwhelmed with COVID-19 patients. The devastating impact of the pandemic is disrupting emergency medical care due to the sheer volume of COVID-19 patients and staffing limitations. These challenges will get worse if we don’t slow COVID-19 spread,” reads Tuesday’s press release.
As of Tuesday, there were 7,898 people hospitalized with COVID-19, 21% of which were in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
Testing results are available for nearly 4,826,000 individuals with 16% of people testing positive.
According to California health officials, the Southern California Region has 0.0% staffed adult ICU capacity remaining as of Tuesday.
Health officials say that at its current rate, one person in Los Angeles County dies of COVID-19 every 15 minutes. L.A. County Public Health director Dr. Barbara Ferrer noted Monday that it is “likely” that the County could begin reporting over 1,000 COVID-19 deaths a week if the surge continues.
“L.A. County reached the terrible milestone of more than 11,000 deaths due to COVID-19. As a community, we must commit to stopping the spread of COVID-19 in its tracks so that we can save as many lives as possible,” said Ferrer. “Roll out for COVID-19 vaccine continues in the phases recommended by the State and CDC as supply allows. And while vaccines are a powerful tool, we do not need to wait for vaccine to stop new COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations and death. We can do that now. It takes every business and every resident to purposefully follow public health directives and safety measures. Please stay home and leave only for essential work or essential services.”

For those who have just returned from a trip outside of Los Angeles County, they must quarantine in place for 10 days and monitor for symptoms for 14 days. Testing is suggested if experiencing COVID-19 symptoms or if one is possibly exposed to someone who was positive.

KHTS Radio Santa Clarita Radio – Santa Clarita News
Ah, yes, we must have our daily dose of terror porn. Please let us know when things have gotten so bad that LA County does more than just “urge” the film industry to “think” about shutting down. Or when Newsom misses a hair appointment.
You know people are dying of this right now right ? My mother in law just passed Sunday from this – I hope you find salvation and peace one day.
TAP Mayhem wasn’t knocking the seriousness of the virus but for how the media keeps reminding us of the spread while government leaders continue to get haircuts and film crews allowed to continue filming. Leaders are a bunch of hypocrites. The virus is real, they’re duty to the community, not so much.
SCV_Up_North, don’t bother trying to explain,
A4w has a tendency to comment on others when they comment by constantly reminding “us” of the spread, and it’s dangers,
I think most of us folks understand,
Our politicians and their hypocrites supporters, not so much.
I am sick of the politicalizing of COVID-19 – our vulnerable population deserve better.
I am not sure how labeling something ‘a daily dose of terror porn’ quite describes the current level of pandemic, to me, I was dismayed and saddened, considering the 350,000 plus dead – that’s nearly 1.5 times the entire population of the santa clarita valley, or more than twenty staples centers filled with dead people, if anyone has a problem visualizing the scale.
Let me tell you what took place. Person X and her husband took a trip before Christmas, they view the current pandemic as overblown, ‘terror porn’ if you like. Once back, they picked up a 73 year old with existing health concerns for the Christmas celebration. Last Thursday the 73 year old started to feel unwell, as did other members of the family. Sunday morning, when someone went to check on them they were found unresponsive on the floor. They could not be resuscitated and pronounced dead at the scene.
Hence my response that labeling something as ‘terror porn’ as inaccurate, inhuman, and unhelpful. I have to say, that a bunch of you Parotic Americans seem to lack empathy and good will to mankind. These are not the Christian values I was expecting.
As for your response p s hiett. I have commented on your posts where they have been misleading or wrong, and will continue to do so – any day you want to get on zoom – I can arrange it.
I am not the one to express my heart warming condolences or send you thoughts and prayers. There’s nothing I can do to help your situation. It sucks, period. But I can say, reading up on the internet about things will not enforce any type of healing for you or your family.
With that said, no one wants this to be political, except for those who have political power. And those people are unfortunately able to dictate what we can and can’t do. We can protests, rebel, kick and scream, but lets be honest, those people arent going anywhere. I’ve been hearing and seeing recall Newsom for over a year now, and where have we gotten with that?
You should not judge what other people are feeling and tell us we lack empathy. We just don’t know how to feel anymore. The news drastically sways every day and there are people who like to go online to cause further distress.
None of us want to be here, but here we are. Regardless of how some labels what you see on the internet, your best option right now is to worry about your family, not about a bunch of people on the internet.
I am sorry for your loss. My mother-in-law died in 2010 and her death was 40 days of hell for her. My wife has still not recovered emotionally. However, we never used her death as an excuse to screech at people that they’re required to join us in our own delusions.
The phrase “terror porn” is quite accurate. We’re using hysterical reporting to justify measures that are completely ruining people’s lives. Children are not being educated, people can’t work, tens of millions are seriously depressed, terrorized people are not seeking medical care for serious issues, and for what? Did any of this save your mother-in-law? Did it actually cost more lives than it saved? Would there have been any difference in outcome if we had done exactly what we did with SARS and just ignore it?
Tap After that last diatribe – may the lord have mercy on your soul.
