Officials reported Saturday that over 900,000 cumulative cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in Los Angeles, more than 100,000 of which have come from the past week alone.
An additional 16,982 COVID-19 cases were reported in Los Angeles County on Saturday, along with 221 deaths, according to the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (LADPH).
This brings the county’s cumulative total to 906,171 positive cases of COVID-19 and 12,084 deaths since March 2020.
More than one in every five people in L.A. County who have been tested are testing positive for coronavirus, public health officials said.
According to Paul Simon, chief science officer for the LADPH, 151,772 doses of the COVID-19 vaccines have been administered as of Thursday, Jan. 7.
Public health officials continued to stress the need for the public practice of physical distancing and wearing a cloth face covering
As of Saturday, there were 7,966 people hospitalized with COVID-19, 22% of which were in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
Testing results are available for over 4,960,000 individuals with 17% of people testing positive.
According to California health officials, the Southern California Region has 0.0% staffed adult ICU capacity remaining as of Friday.
Health officials say that at its current rate, one person in Los Angeles County dies of COVID-19 every 8 minutes. Ferrer noted Monday that it is “likely” that the County could begin reporting over 1,000 COVID-19 deaths a week if the surge continues.
For those who have just returned from a trip outside of Los Angeles County, they must quarantine in place for 10 days and monitor for symptoms for 14 days. Testing is suggested if experiencing COVID-19 symptoms or if one is possibly exposed to someone who was positive.

We need a dot map of exact areas of outbreaks!
There are people who show no signs of Covid but still carry the virus. They are well enough to move about from wherever they live, wherever those dots would be.. Assume it’s everywhere and use a mask, etc. You know the drill. You older folks over 50 do not want to get it, it can really mess you up. Stay safe SCV
Can we get on the same page? Liberal progressives who are vocal about abiding by the rules, please stop traveling with your family and hosting “quarantine” play dates and hosting get togethers. You are super spreaders and you are in denial.
SEYMOUR the excuser: True, people who are positive for the Wuhan, China virus without symptoms can travel around can spread—but, as usual, you and your condoning Liberal ilk divert/turn things around to confuse normal people!! The post was, a map with dots showing the concentration of positive people to help humans stay clear of those areas to help stop the spread! Stop trying to cover-up facts/reality to hurt innocent people by your Liberal diverting of facts/truths, please care about decent Americans! You Liberals may hate Christians, but we don’t! Otherwise tell the truth, the big picture!
Ricardo – that response was demented. I hope you recover soon and find peace.
There you go again, never an ORIGINAL thought, just a response to anyone else’s comment.
I don’t hate Christians. I respect everyone’s religious freedom, that includes Muslims and Jewish too Ricardo. Heck, It might surprise you, but I was confirmed and the works growing up too. I believe in a higher power, no doubt in my heart. Your faith is your business, however, you can’t expect it to roll over into legislature or influence the public school system. Most people are socially liberal, whether you like to accept that or not and many are actually fiscally conservative as well. You gotta relax and stop jumping to conclusions.
Back to what this article is about, and your need for a map. Let me remind you, if more people wore a mask, respected social distancing and avoiding gathering, especially indoors they wouldn’t need to check maps. They’d be doing the respectful thing everywhere they go for their own safety and others.
Ricardo, I can appreciate citing China as the origin point for COVID-19, but you may not be aware of an insidious consequence of using the term Whuan China virus.
I’m a 55 year old Filipino American female, born and raised in the United States working in the health care industry. In the past 9 months, I have faced multiple acts of racism and discrimination, shocking and seldom experienced my past 20 years in Santa Clarita.
I’ve been a victim of racial slurs, some discreetly whispered walking by and once yelled at from a car window. One person spit on me and in one truly frightening case, I was “accidentally” knocked to the ground by a large male.
Please know there are many Pacific Islanders, like myself, in the health care industry with experiences like this. We work long and heartbreaking hours caring for those impacted by COVID-19. Having to also face overt racism when we do finally have a free moment is not just hurtful and scary, it permeates and hinders our ability to maintain an optimistic attitude, a critically important component of patient care.
Asians and Pacific Islanders come from many different countries and backgrounds, yet because some cannot or will not see this, we are all painted with the brush of responsibility for a virus we had nothing to do with.
The sad truth is that words can become weapons. Wuhan China Flu places blame on a place, but the bigger issue is it stirs up xenophobia amongst those who are only too eager and willing to punish an entire race or anyone with similar physical attributes for this horrible virus.
Appreciate you Maria! Racism has no place in our country! Thank you for taking the time to make such an important statement. I fully support hero pay for frontline workers, especially nurses!
Maria: Thanks for your service in health care, you folks are true Heroes of societies! Ignorant people assume that all people with narrower eyes are the same, just as they do with white people—all the same, not of different cultures. Fortunately the Asian cultures have been taught decency, respect, education which the majority follow, that’s why they’re overall happy and successful. All races here in America are taught proper behaviors, etc. free in taxpayer paid public schools from K-12 and unfortunately those who are ignorant/uncaring slap the USA in the face, spit on American like the demons that have done that to you! Anyhow, Seymour the excuser was covering up for areas of bad behavior of crowding, non mask and distancing by suppressing the areas of high outbreaks, to keep us safe. Thanks for your service that most don’t know the depth and breadth of! Maramie Salamut Matalino! See Gay, babbyet Puso!
If anything Ricardo, I’m reminding everyone of how important it is to wear a mask, respect social distancing and avoid gathering, especially indoors, ANYWHERE you go about your business. And again, racism has no place in this country. Stop looking at color and see everyone as an individual.
Seymour the accuser: Nobody mentioned color, you’re prejudice. True, there is no place for racism in our country, tell that to BLM/Antifa——they won’t listen, they just keep dividing and stirring up hatred and violence. Yes everyone should mask, distance and not crowd, especially indoors! If everyone doesn’t tell the truth/facts of who is causing problems in societies, it can’t be fixed!
