L.A. County Vaccine COVID-19 Eligibility, Availability Expand

Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (LADPH) officials offered an update on vaccine eligibility and availability Friday.

On Friday, LADPH Science Officer Dr. Paul Simon gave details on new groups who are set to be eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccine starting Monday, March 1, which is set to include educators and first responders.

“Together these groups comprise well over a million adults in Los Angeles County. Therefore, it will take considerable time to vaccinate these groups,” Simon said. “Unless vaccine supply has a significant increase, we urge the public’s patience as we work through this process as swiftly as possible.”

Of the 103,000 first doses set to be distributed next week, 35.8% are expected to go to those who are 65 and older, 27.6% to food and agriculture workers, 30.3% to education and childcare providers and 62.2% to members of emergency services, according to Simon.

In order to receive a COVID-19 vaccine, workers in eligible sectors must present relevant documents stating:

  • Proof that they live or work in L.A. County
  • Proof that they work in an eligible sector and a photo ID
  • One document can cover more than one criterion (photo ID shows L.A. County Address)
  • Examples:

    • Payment stub with name
    • Copy of work shift schedule with name (Food and Agriculture)

Simon also reported that L.A. County was set to receive an increased supply of vaccine doses for the next week, with around 269,000 doses to be distributed across 341 county vaccination sites.

An estimated 1,958,547 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered within Los Angeles County as of Friday, roughly three-fourths of which have gone to first doses.
