UPDATE: Playgrounds Allowed To Reopen Under State Order, L.A. County Reverses Restrictions

Playgrounds are allowed to reopen under the California stay-at-home order, with Los Angeles County also reversing the restrictions, City officials said.

Los Angeles County Supervisor Hilda Solis made the announcement Wednesday, with the county aligning with the state, allowing playgrounds to reopen.

“We will be aligning with the state to permit playgrounds to reopen we expect there to be mask-wearing and physical distancing but we know parents and caregivers will do that to ensure our children can play safely outdoors access to playgrounds is critical for especially our residents who do not have backyards,” Solis said.

The supervisor wanted to thank parents and caregivers who have navigated the many challenges of this pandemic from the very beginning.

On Wednesday after backlash from parents, California allowed playgrounds to reopen after closing the play structures effective Sunday evening.

“Playgrounds may remain open to facilitate physically distanced personal health and wellness through outdoor exercise,” reads the state’s website. “Playgrounds located on schools that remain open for in-person instruction, and not accessible by the general public, may remain open and must follow guidance for schools and school-based programs.”

Face-coverings are still required if children are unable to say six feet apart, according to the guidelines.

The State announced a Regional Stay Home Order went into effect at midnight Sunday and would remain in effect for at least three weeks in California regions where ICU capacity falls below 15%.

As of Dec. 8, the Southern California Region has 10.1% staffed adult ICU capacity remaining, according to the state.

Because L.A. County is in the Southern California Region, the Los Angeles County Health Officer Order is set to be modified to fully align with additional safety measures across sectors and the required effective date. The Order prohibits private gatherings of any size, closes sector operations, and requires 100% masking and physical distancing. The State Regional Stay at Home Order is similar to the existing County Safer at Home Health Offer with additional sector closings.

  1. Why is Rockin’ Jump allowed to stay open or even have opened in the first place when Mountasia’s outside activities were not? Ice Station closed, bowling alleys are closed, no outside dinning and the list goes.on, but Rokin’ Jump is open?????
