Six Flags Magic Mountain Plans Reopening With Masks, Sanitation

Six Flags Magic Mountain is planning on reopening with a new health safety plan, officials said.

The amusement park has been closed since March 13, but Six Flags CEO Michael Spanos said the company is working on a health and safety plan for reopening in a call to analysts.

“There’s a lot to be learned in the next few weeks as a lot of these states are opening and they see how they’re moving forward in terms of the broad state opening and what that means,” Spanos said. “We’re tracking the numbers closely. We look at all sorts of data and we’re talking to the local officials. It’s a moving target.”

The target as of Monday stands at May 15, “or soon thereafter,” Six Flags said in a statement in March.

“While there have been no reported cases of COVID-19 at the properties, the safety of our guests and team members is always our highest priority,” the statement from the company issued March 30 reads.

This health safety plan is said to include face masks, temperature checks and constant sanitation, according to the company.

Officials also say that a limit on the number of riders allowed in line for a ride may also be enforced.

Six Flags plans to reopen on a park-by-park basis based on recommendations and guidance from state and local authorities, according to the CEO.

“We’re really regionally diversified,” said Spanos. “The good thing is we’ve got no park that’s more than 10 percent of the attendance base.”

Amid the park closure, Six Flags is allowing members with 2020 season passes to put a hold on their payments until parks reopen, according to Sandra Daniels, vice president of communications with Six Flags.

“Members may pause their monthly payments while parks are closed due to COVID-19,” Daniels said.

Six Flags is continuing to closely monitor this evolving situation, and follow the most current guidance from federal, state and local officials, according to the company.

Six Flags Magic Mountain Plans Reopening With Masks, Sanitation

  1. With the number of people getting infected with the Coronavirus keep going up in SCV… this is a horrible idea. Why would Six Flags put more people at risk when the virus hasn’t even peaked yet? Of course, as people go into Six Flags and understand with people like THAT are going to make this Coronavirus… absolutely stronger. God help you all.

  2. Just SO asinine, that regardless that everyone knows that opening up everywhere is going to put us back to square one, they’re SO EAGER to do that, knowing ahead of time that so many people will die when this thing spikes again, (not to mention it mutating into something worse than we’ve seen so far)! People are SO STUPID and priorities are so screwed up, nobody cares about the consequences, and it’s obvious here in this country LIVES DON’T MATTER anymore, it makes me feel sick to my stomach what we have to soon look forward to! Nobody cares about anyone but themselves, not even their family members anymore. Sad to see no question about it! Thing is, if we let it happen, then we deserve it! If we choose brainless ignorance, who would rather play childish games and play the blame game instead of working WITH the rest of the world to make great things happen, embrace crappy leaders who almost seem to try to push their own BS to see how far they can screw us over before we put our collective foot down and say NO MORE, then we deserve that! If we let idiot loser ‘leaders’ take us down the rabbit hole, we deserve that if we’re that dumb to play follow-the-leader that way! We are in a downward spiral here in the US, and these days will go down in history as the time when the US reduced itself to a mere third world country, erasing progress we’ve achieved through the years, and embracing hatred, bigotry, separatism, and selfishness!! Sad…… it’s SO sad…… but then, if we as a people are that stupid and let it happen, that’s the way it goes….we deserve what we get!

    • I couldn’t had said what you said better myself. Well put, Lisa… Excellent choice of words. I stand by EVERYTHING you just said.

    • Lisa, really! This can’t go on forever! Everyone has to stay home all because of Covid-19! So please stop saying that the god damn sky is falling. Please. Because you know the sky isn’t falling. It’s not like Chicken Little. So you know everyone must stay home. But it doesn’t mean the sky is falling because it’s actually not. The sky is not falling. So wear a mask, wash your hands, and stay home!

  3. Im not saying forever, but we shouldn’t go nuts and open before it’s safe! Period! To do so is just insanity, and we MUST be smart about it!

    • SCV Coronavirus infected numbers are getting higher & higher with each day that passes (based on KHTS numbers) & they want to open Six Flags? Not a good idea, not a good idea at all. #Dummy

  4. Lisa, hang in there. There are many people who seem to feel as you do. They will be a part of bringing about change for the better.

  5. Open the park back up soon? I think it’s a great idea to open it back up in June or July. Because the Covid-19 is getting much worse. Let’s just let it open back up in July. Or else open it back up in 2021 or sooner. Because covid-19 won’t end for too long.

  6. It is a given that larger venues like this are not going to be open for business anytime soon nor that there will be a safety plan that can expedite that reality that wouldn’t be science fiction. I don’t expect it and will perfectly fine waiting however long it takes. I had not heard I could suspend my payments rather I had been informed I was getting upgraded to diamond status and would get free months tacked on to the end of my membership if and when it was cancelled. Realistically I have had a monthly pass for over three years and get to use it at best 4 out of 12 months when there is no closure. So it’s not unusual to pay and be inactive anyway. Just because the reason I waste my month changed doesnt change anything else. Although the opportunity the Company has that the membership revenue being collected for an empty park could be used to fix the badly maintained parking lot. Now that it’s sitting empty the guarantee that there will be no cars and crowds leaves no excuse to not fix the hazardous conditions that have become concerning to me everyone we visit. I use a wheelchair at the park and I have been left unable to navigate a large part of the area without assistance due to large cracks that are becoming holes littered with chucks of asphalt and loose gravel as the decay progresses without any attention paid to fixing it. Not an easy thing to do In the “365 days open ,private party night attendance and special events” reality, but now without any excuses I hope they make that a priority and will happily not suspend my payments to pitch in to cover the cost
