17-Year-Old Cited For Driving Nearly 100 MPH On Soledad Canyon Road

A 17-year-old was cited for allegedly driving 97 miles per hour on Soledad Canyon Road Wednesday after he was “late for work,” officials said.

A deputy conducted a traffic stop on Wednesday for a vehicle that was reportedly traveling 97 mph on Soledad Canyon Road by the Saugus Speedway, said Shirley Miller, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

“The driver, a 17-year-old male, reportedly didn’t seem to think it was a big deal, and commented that he was ‘late for work,'” Miller said.

The teen driver was cited by the deputy and a re-evaluation is being submitted to the California Department of Vehicles regarding his driver’s license status, according to Sheriff’s officials.

Sheriff’s officials are using this incident to remind parents to talk with their teen drivers about following the rules of the road.

During the first six months of 2018, Santa Clarita saw over 750 collisions.  This is an increase over the previous two years during the same time period, according to City of Santa Clarita officials.

“It is clear that we all need to change our driving behaviors and make our roadways safer,” City officials said on their site, Drive, Focus, Live. “The City and the Sheriff’s Department are increasing our traffic safety enforcement, engineering and education in an effort to improve safety on our roadways.”

  1. How long will his license be suspended? I’m too lazy to look it up, but I think until he’s twenty-one. Thank God he ok for now.

  2. Was he not not arrested ? Reckless driving !!! Are you serious? Going nearly 60 miles over speed limit.. and minor .

  3. Why wasn’t he arrested especially given how many miles over the speed limit he was going? Hopefully he loses his license. He should not be driving putting the rest of us at risk for harm.

  4. Arrested, car impounded, loss of license, and a crap ton of community service…maybe cleaning up the debris from all the accidents over the next four years until he reaches 21. That’s ridiculous.

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
