Last week, 18 food vendors were shut down with over 7,000 pounds of food product being confiscated during a crime suppression operation throughout the Santa Clarita Valley.
Between May 27 and May 31, deputies alongside multiple other country agencies cracked down on illegal food vendors across the Santa Clarita Valley, according to Deputy Robert Jensen, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.
“We shut down 18 street vendors in total across the Santa Clarita Valley, seizing approximately 7,600 pounds of meat, liquid and other food products,” Jensen said.
In addition, seven vehicles and/or trailers were towed for being in violation of expired registration, parking in red zones or not having a licensed driver, according to Jensen.
Deputies also made one felony and five misdemeanor arrests for different warrants throughout the crime suppression operation.
The take down of the 18 food vendors comes two months after multiple business owners shared concerns with Los Angeles County regarding illegal food vending, especially in Castaic.
In the March 27 meeting, Branch Director James Dragan from the County of Los Angeles Department of Public Health stated in his presentation that in the last 10 years, sidewalk food vending has exploded, contributing to the increasing concerns over public health and safety in communities.
The County is working to eliminate illegal food vendors due to many not practicing food safety measures, as well as concerns over those that are not paying taxes.

Beautiful! I support small businesses who have proper permits & health grades.
Thank you for cleaning up SCV.
It’s about time LA County! This has been going on for many years and ignored by authorities. I’ve called SCV Sheriffs Station about a woman in an old Nissan red truck with a camper shell parked directly in front of a fire hydrant and brightly painted red curb just north of Walgrens on Haskell Canyon. She sits under a shade tree on her fold out chair with a large sign “strawberries” positioned facing motorists. The station either didn’t handle my calls or they have the “She’s just trying to make a living” mentality and cut her slack because she is ALWAYS parked there Friday afternoons, still.
Who calls the sheriff’s on the strawberry lady? You really need to get a life lol
Who calls out someone for calling the sheriff on the strawberry lady? You really need to get a life lol
They need to get the counties rating and inspection system and license like restaurants and food trucks, and it is against the law to block sidewalks. They have regular food trucks on Castaic rd. that has the rating system and inspection and license and has good food.
Illegal businesses operating like this, should be shut down. The whole reason that it has been getting worse is because there hasn’t been strict enforcement. Keep it up. Plus, there should be laws on where legal food trucks can and cannot operate. If they can get a license, Health permit and follow all applicable laws, then they can then operate legally. I know people love these food trucks, but just like unlicensed contractors, the illegal operation of a business ultimately hurts the law-abiding businesses.
Nothing like reading comments by people who love their police state while in Castaic there are more empty buildings than actual restaurants because the rents are ridiculous, but some who want to make a living and feed their families be damned. No one ever forced anyone to eat at a food truck, I’m pretty sure it’s voluntary. I support small business if only the government get involved. Gee, I love my wife because the government is involved because you need a license for that. Land of the free! YAY!
They need to get proper permits and pay proper taxes its the American way.
So, law-abiding = police state? You may be living in the wrong country, my friend.
Police state = can’t walk on the beach during Covid. Having health standards for food and expecting everyone who sells food to follow them is not a police state, it’s called “we don’t want to live in a third world country”.
Because it’s in the best interest of the food vendors to poison you and not want you to come back. It’s called voluntary, no one is forcing you to eat their food. I’m sure you all loved it when they went after kids selling lemonade in front of their houses. Yeah, third world country, have you seen the litter all around Castaic and Santa Clarita? Some of used to have voluntary clean ups and trash removal, guess who got in our way from to doing it by the freeway and other areas? Get your gov’t permits and pay your taxes because it’s the American way! Good Grief!
These trashy sidewalk pop-ups are turning LA into Mexico. Start arresting these people
