273 Speeding Tickets Issued In Santa Clarita As Deputies Crack Down On Unsafe Speeds

Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies issued over 270 citations in a one-week period this month, officials said.

Between Dec. 15 and Dec. 21, deputies targeted areas around Santa Clarita, issuing a “staggering” 273 citations, said Shirley Miller, spokesperson for the station.

“‘Don’t be in such a rush,” Miller said in a social media post. “One of the top concerns relayed to our traffic office is ‘speeders.’”

Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station motor deputies are regularly informed of areas where multiple residents have reported unsafe driving so that those areas can be targeted, according to Miller.

The speeds recorded were not “just a little over the posted speed limit, but substantially greater,” Miller said.

“It’s hard on the pocketbook to get a citation for speeding, and we know you’d much rather spend that money on your family—but our deputies would much rather give you a ticket, than do a door-knock and inform your family that you’ve been involved in a terrible accident, and unfortunately didn’t make it,” Miller said. “Slow down.”

273 Speeding Tickets Issued In Santa Clarita As Deputies Crack Down On Unsafe Speeds

  1. Take McBean between Valencia and the 5 and you could issue 273 citations in one hour on any day of the week. It’s ridiculous that nothing is done to enforce the speed limit. You get blown off the road if you do 45 mph, which by the way is too fast for that stretch of roadway.

  2. Great they need to keep it up
People drive way too fast and weave in and out of traffic while they are doing it

  3. Thank You Officers Lets get more citations only 273 please that should be par. Ask the boss for help. We can afford more motorcycle officers. Keep up the excellent work.

  4. Wondering where these tickets were given since there’s usually too much traffic to be able to speed and everyone drives so slow…usually UNDER the speed limit so I don’t know where this is but it must be somewhere there’s light traffic which I’m that case the speed limit is too low anyway. People just don’t know how to drive a vehicle, especially at higher speeds as they usually have their head up their ass or they’re distracted or they’re multitasking while driving. Adults don’t realize the seriousness behind driving – if properly driving, it’s not possible to do other things.

    • Every school zone I have covered as a crossing guard in the past five school years in Santa Clarita, Stevenson Ranch and Castaic is prone to drivers, most of whom are parents of the students at those schools who drop off or pick up their kids, going way over the school zone limit while children are present. We need to enforce these endangering areas and keep our children safe!

  5. Plum Canyon is a raceway at all hours. And parents dropping their kids at schools are the worst. Park in red zones and everyone else is blocking the street. Can schools make dropoffs one way so at least one side of the street is passable?

  6. Sounds like fundraising. These SCV deputies have nothing better to do. How about fight real Crime?

    • Spoken like an individual who does not need to be concerned over the safety of others such as other motorists getting killed by speeding vehicles, bicyclists or people innocently walking across the streets. People driving approximately the speed limit are not the target for tickets. I am glad to see an effort to slow down the excessive speeding in this city to reduce the amount of accidents and help keep people safe.
I applaud the efforts of the police and sheriffs. It is a thankless job that deserves an abundance of thanks. Keep up the great work and ignore the ignorant comments posted.

    • Nothing to do with fundraising or quotas. The Criminal Units are addressing the crime, and the traffic units addressing the traffic. Last time I checked, speeding is illegal and that makes speeding a crime. Drive the speed limit and obey the laws and then you don’t have to contribute to the so-called “fundraising”.

Thank you LASD Station 6 for all you do. Some of us here have your six.

  7. Nothing to see here folks, end of the year quotas must be met… yawn

  8. Spending time hiding in suburbs waiting for people speeding rather than fighting actual crime, what a waste of tax dollars.

  9. How about having a police presence ANYWHERE on Mananitas parents dropping off their kids racing off to wherever and people trying to beat traffic from Seco Canyon onto Bouquet Canyon is a joke.. I live on Mananitas and it’s just a matter of time before we have a major accident. A few speed bumps would help but it goes back to us tax payers to fund any type of project.. people need to slow down on neighborhood streets!!

  10. More tickets should be given to cell phone & impeding drivers!!

  11. It’s about g*@ da%× time!!! Unfortunately it’s to little to late for so many loved ones killed by reckless, careless and selfish drivers…

  12. I have been a crossing guard in Santa Clarita, Stevenson Ranch and Castaic for the past 5 years and have seen so many close calls in the school zones. We need more enforcement to keep our kids safe as they walk to school and back. What is sad to say, is that parents of school children are probably the worst offenders as far as school zone speed limits go. The schools need to be more aware and proactive about what is happening on their doorsteps to preserve the safety of their students.
