5 Freeway Pursuit Suspect Leads Law Enforcement On 100 MPH Chase Through Grapevine

A 5 Freeway pursuit suspect led law enforcement on a high-speed chase through Santa Clarita and into the Grapevine on Christmas Day, reaching speeds of over 100 miles per hour, officials said.

The 5 Freeway pursuit suspect was allegedly driving a white Lexus stolen from Hollywood and was pursued by the Los Angeles Police Department until Santa Clarita, said California Highway Patrol representatives.

“We took it over from the LAPD around 2:18 on the northbound 5 near Lake Hughes, but it pretty quickly went to Kern and out of L.A. County,” said a dispatcher from the CHP Transportation Management Center.

CHP officers from the Fort Tejon office attempted to set up spike strips to apprehend the suspect on eastbound Highway 138, however, the suspect exited the freeway at Gorman School Road in Lebec and continued to flee northward via Gorman Post Road, said Bakersfield CHP officials.

The suspect continued onto a private property on the 37000 block of Gorman Post Road, according to Bakersfield CHP representatives.

The suspect continued onward, driving through a fence and attempting to evade law enforcement by using dirt access roads, before being pinned to a tree by a PIT maneuver.

One male suspect was apprehended at gunpoint by CHP officers just before 2:50 p.m. Wednesday, according to Bakersfield CHP.
