57 Percent Increase In Santa Clarita Weekend Arrests

This first full weekend of August held a large increase of arrests in Santa Clarita as opposed to the last weekend of July.

Last weekend, Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies and California Highway Patrol officers only made 14 arrests, which saw a dramatic uptick to 22 total arrests this past weekend, Aug. 6-Aug 8.

Additionally, the previous weekend most arrests were of individuals from outside of Santa Clarita, while this Friday through Sunday most people arrested were from within Santa Clarita, only eight of the 22 being from outside the valley.

On-trend with 2021, this weekend’s arrests consisted mostly of drug and alcohol-related offenses, 14 to be exact.

Of the 14 drug and alcohol incidents, six of these arrests were for driving under the influence (DUI) of drugs and/or alcohol.

This weekend also saw multiple domestic charges, including domestic battery, violation of a domestic relations court ruling, or corporal injury of a spouse or cohabitant, according to arrest records.

In one incident this weekend, a 31-year-old man was arrested for an alleged charge of child endangerment, however, circumstances surrounding the arrest have not been released as of Monday afternoon. This man has so far received a felony charge and bail is set to $105,000, according to officials.
