A Bakersfield resident was arrested over the weekend on charges of a carjacking and assault with a deadly weapon in Castaic.
On Friday, Jan. 8, at about 9:40 p.m., deputies responded to The Old Road near Church Street in Castaic regarding a carjacking, according to Deputy Natalie Arriaga, spokesperson from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.
“Upon arrival, deputies contacted the victim and learned while the victim was seated in his vehicle east of The Old Road,” Arriaga said. “A male adult approached the front driver’s side of his vehicle, and struck the victim in the face with a hard object through his open window.”
After being struck, the victim exited their vehicle, the suspect entered the vehicle and drove out of view, according to investigators.
“A brief period later, deputies were alerted by officers with the Bakersfield Police Department that the suspect had been arrested during a traffic stop,” Arriaga said.
The victim sustained moderate injuries and was transported to a local hospital for further medical evaluation.
31-year-old Raymond Rivera was booked on charges of felony carjacking and assault with a deadly weapon, with bail set at 130,000.
