Barricaded Suspect Shot, Killed By Deputies After Putting Gun To Child’s Head

The suspect who barricaded himself after a high-speed pursuit that started in Santa Clarita was shot and killed by deputies after he held a gun to his son’s head Wednesday evening.

Around 9:05 p.m. Wednesday, while deputy personnel were continuing to communicate with the suspect Fernando Fierro to surrender to law enforcement, he put a gun to his son’s head which prompted a deputy involved shooting, Sheriff’s officials said in a statement Thursday morning.

The incident began around 11:45 p.m. Tuesday when California Highway Patrol officers attempted to stop a white 2022 Kia SUV driven by Fierro who was spotted traveling 132 mph on the northbound 14 Freeway near Via Princessa, according to officials. Fierro did not stop, and a pursuit was initiated.

“During the pursuit, the suspect called the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and informed them that he had an infant child and a weapon in the vehicle,” said CHP officials. “The suspect also said he would shoot at the CHP officers if they continued engaging in the pursuit.”

Fierro did fire multiple rounds at officers during the pursuit but did not impact any officers or vehicles, according to officials.

At 1:06 a.m. Fierro stopped in front of his residence on the 2500 block of East Avenue I in Lancaster.

When Fierro exited the vehicle he was holding a weapon to his infant’s head before barricading himself and the child in his home, according to sheriff’s officials.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, Special Enforcement Bureau, (SEB) responded to assist.

Around 9:05 p.m., a deputy involved shooting occurred after law enforcement once again saw Fierro put a gun to his infant child’s head.

Fierro was pronounced dead on arrival, and his son was not injured.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is encouraged to contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff Department’s Information Bureau at (213) 229-1850.

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
