Castaic Man Arrested Twice In One Day On Felony Charges

A Castaic man was arrested twice in one day after deputies say he committed multiple crimes ranging from bicycle theft to armed robbery.

Around 1:40 a.m. on Tuesday, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies patrolling near Castaic Road and Parker Road were flagged down by a man who reported his bicycle – valued at approximately $2,500 – had been stolen while he was inside a gas station.

After receiving a description of the suspect and the stolen bicycle, deputies searched the area and located 23-year-old Ruben Barraza of Castaic.

Barraza was arrested on felony grand theft charges and taken to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station jail.

He was cited and released with a court date, officials said.

However, later that same day, Barraza was reportedly involved in a second incident.

After being released from custody, Barraza allegedly approached two juveniles in Castaic, threatened them while armed with a knife, and demanded their skateboard and e-bike, according to preliminary information.

Deputies rearrested Barraza on multiple felony charges, including criminal threats, assault with a deadly weapon, carrying a concealed dirk or dagger, and robbery. He was booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station jail, where he remains in custody with bail set at $150,000.
