Castaic Transient Arrested For Blocking Public Sidewalk

A transient woman, known to live near the Castaic Ralphs, was arrested Wednesday after blocking a public sidewalk and a warrant.

Around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, deputies responded to The Old Road and Sedona Way in Castaic regarding a female transient refusing to let people walk past her on the sidewalk, according to Deputy Natalie Arriaga, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

“Upon arrival, deputies learned the suspect willfully and maliciously impeded the victim’s path of travel while using hostile language in a public place,” Arriaga said.

The suspect was detained on scene and positively identified by the victim.

The suspect also had an active warrant for her arrest, according to Arriaga.

Leila Rosenthal, 60, a Castaic transient, was arrested for obstructing a street/sidewalk in a public place and disturbing the peace, both misdemeanors, as well as her warrant, Arriaga added.

Rosenthal was arrested and transported to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station’s jail with bail set at $250, according to arrest records.

Castaic Transient Arrested For Blocking Public Sidewalk

  1. She is a homeless vagrant camped on the sidewalk in front of BofA. She has been there a very long time, and does things like dry her clothes on the bushes. People like this need mental health care and confinement. NOT FREE HOUSING.

  2. She needs to be placed on a facility for the remainder of her life, she clearly can’t care for herself. She was by my house a year and a half ago, she’s crazy throwing food, drinks, poop at passerbys. I saw her peeing on the freeway off ramp, a sane person wouldn’t do this.

  3. Give her a seat on Barger’s Blue Ribbon Commission on Homelessness. That is after hosing her down with Dawn, Clorox bleach, and de-licer. She will be equally effective as the rest of the Commission.

  4. I witnessed her yelling at a young couple and their two children trying to walk on the sidewalk. This woman has been “growing” her black trash bags and “living space” over the past couple of months. I was concerned for the young family but they seemed to be wise in their choices. I am glad they called the authorities.

  5. Why is this person not on a 72 hour 5150 hold?
    Danger to herself and others.
In need of diagnosis and medication.
    Unable to care for herself.
    Evaluate and commit.

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
