Child Endangerment Suspect Arrested After Guns, Drugs Found In Car With Toddler

A Los Angeles man was arrested Friday after firearms and “large” amounts of drugs were found in his car while having a 2-year-old passenger.

Around 11 p.m. Friday, officers with the California Highway Patrol (CHP) Newhall Area Office observed a silver SUV at a high rate of speed on the southbound 14 Freeway near Sand Canyon Road in Canyon Country, said Officer Josh Greengard, spokesperson for the CHP Newhall Area Office.

“CHP Officers initiated an enforcement stop and contacted (the suspect),” Greengard said. “It was revealed by CHP dispatch (the suspect) was on active probation.”

During a search of the vehicle, CHP officers recovered two firearms,  “large” amounts of different types of drugs and a “large” amount of money, Greengard said.

The suspect also had a 2-year-old child in the vehicle, according to Greengard.

Joseph Brooks,  30, from Los Angeles was arrested on multiple felony drugs and firearm offenses, and on a felony count of child endangerment, according to Greengard.

Brooks was booked into the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station and is set to be arraigned Tuesday, Greengard added.

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
