CHP Pursuit Of Reckless Driver Blows Through Santa Clarita

A reckless driver led California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers on a 5 Freeway pursuit through Santa Clarita on Wednesday afternoon.

The pursuit began somewhere in the North Hollywood area of Los Angeles, and quickly sped north up the 5 Freeway and through the Santa Clarita Valley, continuing past Castaic as of 3:50 p.m. Wednesday.

The suspect vehicle is described as a black Volkswagen sedan.

Authorities reported the suspect was originally wanted for an unsafe lane change which quickly escalated into a pursuit.

The pursuit continued throughout Santa Clarita at high rates of speed, going as fast as 90 miles per hour. The driver also swerved multiple times between cars.

At around 4 p.m. the vehicle hit a spike strip set up the CHP, which flattened the tired of the car almost immediately.

At around 4:10 p.m. a pit maneuver brought the suspect’s vehicle to a halt where the suspect then ran across several lanes of traffic to evade deputies. The suspect then attempted to carjack multiple vehicles without success.

Eventually the suspect made his way to where his car was originally stopped and surrendered to authorities near Vista del Lago.

  1. Jade, Check your source. Not Vista Del Lago exit!
All other news sources are saying Smokey Bear Road (north end of Pyramid Lake).
